Five Tips On How To Pig Farm That Will Help You In Keeping Healthy And Happy Pigs
If you have some room in your backyard, you can consider raising pigs to provide an affordable meat supply for your family. The advantage of using pigs you've raised yourself for food is that you are sure that the meat is free from antibiotics and other chemicals that might damage your family's health. Here are some of the basics of how to pig farm.

First, when you're starting to learn how to pig farm, you have to know how to pick the right piglets. A healthy four- to eight-week young pig should weigh around twenty to fifty pounds. Avoid getting the runt of the litter even at a bargain price unless you want to raise it as a pet since it will not grow into a good source of meat. You will raise the pig for around five months, or until it weighs some 200 to 220 pounds, which will give you an estimated 135 pounds of meat products, such as ham, bacon and lard. If you let the pig grow beyond this weight, it will no longer be economical since the additional poundage will be mostly fat.
Proper housing is an important part of how to pig farm. Ideally, you should keep the pig outside, in a fenced in area so they can get plenty of exercise and their meat will mostly be lean. You should also provide a three-sided shelter to protect the pigs from the hot sun. Shade is very important for pigs since they do not sweat and their skin burns easily. You might also consider digging a water hole or a mud wallow so the pig can cool off, or spray them with water from a hose daily.

The proper food for your pig is also an essential aspect of how to pig farm. While you can feed them with scraps and soiled produce from your garden, this should not be their only food source. Ideally you should supplement this with pig feed that has the vitamins and nutrients they need to keep them healthy but which has no antibiotics. If you want to fatten the pig quickly, you can also give it a diet of grain supplemented with vitamin and mineral additives.

One neglected aspect of how to pig farm is the pigs' water supply. They should have a lot of water in order to stay healthy, and this should be refreshed on a daily basis.

Finally, make sure to keep your pigs free of disease. A wormer should be given every month in pellet form which you can feed to them because it is slightly sweetened. Also, have them vaccinated for the most common swine diseases by your local veterinarian.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
Is there a way to get rid of locust trees WITHOUT heavy farm equipment?
Locust trees are sprouting up like crazy in our field. They range in size from about a foot tall to a little over my height (5 ft. 6).

Part of the problem is that we mow our field irregularly, because we don't have our own tractor. Is there a pesticide we can apply to these trees ourselves, without a tractor, to kill them? We started pulling them up and cutting them down, but were told the stumps could burst tractor tires when we got the field bush hogged again.

    Any ideas?

    • ANSWER:
One of the best tree sprout controls is a herbicide called triclopyr, and sold as brush b gon. Most retail nurseries carry this product. You can simply spray the sprouts that come up, and the herbicide will move into the roots to kill at least a part of it. You may need to repeat the treatment on all new sprouts. It is not necessary or recommended to treat anything other than the sprout trunk, so there would be little damage to the soil or other nearby plants.

  2. QUESTION:
What to konw about Ethanol Industry ? and the result of this political idea? another state plan ?
Each year in early October my grandfather summoned my entire family to come to his farm and harvest potatoes. Hunched over on all fours, each person quietly filled their buckets with these "earth apples." Each year he used a different field for his crop. One year he would plant potatoes, the next year beets or wheat. The potato replaced the grain diet on the European continent. It became survival food, especially during the two World Wars. Dumplings, potato salad and mashed potatoes are only a few potato dishes found in a long list in the European cuisine. The easy adaptability of the potato to grow almost anywhere in the world can produce an annual crop of 322 million tons of potatoes. Many African countries greatly benefit from growing the potatoes because they make them more self-sufficient in their food production.

In the age of nation building, stamping out of global warming, and driving for energy self-sufficiency, the new state appointed rival of the potato is maize, which is better known as corn – the yellow cob-born grain used in the production of ethanol fuel. As a blend with gasoline, biofuel powers automobiles and farm equipment. Its environmental friendly side effect is to reduce greenhouse gases, and some say it is the key to everlasting energy security in the future.

Ethanol fuel production received its first stimulus after the Arab oil crisis in 1973. During 1978 the US federal government sealed the project with the Energy Tax Act authorizing tax exemptions by blending gasoline with 10 percent ethanol. A floodgate of free money opened up for farmers and ethanol producers as the energy and agricultural departments spent billions of dollars on subsidies. This year’s estimates are between .5 billion to .3 billion of our tax dollars to be handed out to corn growers.

The incentives for farmers to grow corn in the US is not to meet the needs of a market that entails a healthy profit. Instead, they plant corn because they get paid to do so by a federal government interested in ethanol production. And as it turns out, producing ethanol is an expensive process. Archer Daniels Midland Corporation (ADM) out of Illinois, one of the largest producers of ethanol, received as much as billion in subsidies between 1980 through 1997 along with favorable tax breaks costing taxpayers an average of for every dollar ADM earns in profits. Add to that the 0 of federal and state subsidies it takes to reduce one metric ton of CO2-equivalent, one can literarily say that it is governments who heat up the globe by burning cash.

This year corn production has already increased by 15 percent over last year. Even President Bush, not a green lover but excited about ethanol, is expecting that farmers will plant 90.5 millions of acres of corn in 2007 in order to meet the demands of ethanol production of 132 billion liters by 2017. Corn prices already went up by 50 percent. The average price per bushel of .95, which had held steady over the past eight years, jumped up to .05 in January of this year, and is expected to rise as high as .40.

Corn is feedstock. It is consumed not only by humans but also by hogs, chickens and cattle. The drastic side-effect of higher corn prices is now reflected in the higher prices in the grocery store. The price of food went up 3.9 percent last year – faster than the inflation rate, which ranges around 2.7 in 2007. In particular, pork, beef, milk, eggs and poultry show drastic increases in their prices. So do fruits and vegetables. Considering that most people spend an average of 10 percent of their disposable income on food, higher prices in grocery reduces the spending on cars, homes or clothing. Health Nazis should also be concerned, since these higher prices drive people to cheaper processed foods that add to increased health risks in the poor segment of the population.

The US Federal Government’s targeted goal is to replace gasoline with corn-based fuel as an alternative energy source. This has caught the attention of poorer countries. Mexico, for example, is gradually replacing agave, a spiky-leaved, large plant which grows on high and arid land and takes eight years to reach maturity, with corn. Agave is the main ingredient for Tequila. Mexico produced 25 to 35 percent less agave this year and farmers take less care of their agave crop in favor of higher corn prices. The World Food Program (WFP), which recently stated that it can no longer feed the poor due to the impact of biofuel demand on food prices, is foolishly encouraging African and Latin American countries to take advantage of the rising demand of biofuels by planting corn; a popular world practice that is now devastating 900 million of the world’s poorest which rely on the UN feeding program.

It is quite clear that the state-inflated demand for corn is causing a global imbalance in food production. Farmers are replacing a variety of vegetables and fruits with corn due to the higher profit-per-acre corn brings. The two-year practice of crop rotation for corn drains the soil and requires more fertilizers on the following soybean crop. The additional cost ends up with the consumer. As food prices rise, it is the poor who suffer most from this inflated demand for biofuel. It is a burden that most people cannot afford as inflation keeps rising because of irresponsible spending and government debt.

The federal budget for the fiscal year beginning this October called for .9 trillion dollars in government spending. It includes increases for all the various cabinet-level departments. Among them were a 5.4 percent increase for the Department of Energy and 3.6 percent increase for Agriculture. According to Richard M. Ebeling, President of The Freeman, the average US household would have to shell out approximately ,845 in taxes to cover the budget. Include with it the US federal government’s pre-existing liabilities of several trillion, and the average US household would have to pay an additional ,000 a year for 75 years to pay off the debt already incurred by government spending. How can an average income household cover the basic needs such as food, clothing, and shelter when tax burdens already devour the wages of a lower income population? Poor people only become poorer as spending continues.

Republican presidential candidate Dr. Ron Paul seems to be the only congressional member who understands the global effects of subsidies. During his second presidential debate the question came up about oil profits. His response was: "I don’t think the profits are the issue. The profits are okay if they’re legitimately earned in a free market. What I object to are subsidies to big corporations when we subsidize them and give them R&D (Research & Development) money. I don’t think that should be that way. They should take it out of the funds that they earn..."

Here lies the answer to many of the energy questions. Let the private sector find a solution to new energy sources. Already technology advances at a rapid speed and its products remain ultimately competitive on the market where prices drop and become affordable to the average consumer. Just think of recent changes from VCRs and phonograph records to DVD’s and CD players, and the addition of cell phones and portable computers to modern life. All are now available at reasonable prices to low-income households. Industry continually comes up with new inventions that contribute highly to communication, organization and entertainment. The only sectors that remain high in cost with outrageous prices are sectors that are under government regulation and control: health care, medicine, education, housing, and now food prices. It would be a life-saving act of mercy to close these various departments of government, if people want to have a future for the next generation.

The trouble caused on the global market by the federal government’s sponsored ethanol industry increasingly outweighs the good it does. The idea of sacrificing food production in the name of biofuel as a future source of energy is an irrational concept. The consequence of higher food prices due to corn production hasn’t come from consumer choice but from government coercion. If the demand for energy is increasing, and biofuel is the answer, then where will the world grow its food? The big believers in a government supported biofuel industry might have to prepare for another big tsunami to hit the shores of Third World countries and at home if this insanity isn’t stopped. Just don’t blame capitalism if and when it comes.

    • ANSWER:
Ethanol fuel is ethanol (ethyl alcohol), the same type of alcohol found in alcoholic beverages. It can be used as a fuel, mainly as a biofuel alternative to gasoline, and is widely used in cars in Brazil. Because it is cheap, easy to manufacture and process, and can be made from very common materials, such as corn, it is steadily becoming a highly respected and researched alternative to gasoline throughout much of the world.

Anhydrous ethanol, that is, ethanol with at most 1% water, the same alcohol as found in alcoholic beverages, can be blended with gasoline in varying quantities up to pure ethanol (E100), and most spark-ignited gasoline style engines will operate well with mixtures of 10% ethanol (E10).[1] Most cars on the road today in the U.S. can run on blends of up to 10% ethanol,[2] and the use of 10% ethanol gasoline is mandated in some cities where harmful levels of auto emissions are possible.[3]

Ethanol can be mass-produced by fermentation of sugar or by hydration of ethylene from petroleum and other sources. Current interest in ethanol mainly lies in bio-ethanol, produced from the starch or sugar in a wide variety of crops, but there has been considerable debate about how useful bio-ethanol will be in replacing fossil fuels in vehicles. Concerns relate to the large amount of arable land required for crops,[4] as well as the energy and pollution balance of the whole cycle of ethanol production.[5][6] Recent developments with cellulosic ethanol production and commercialization may allay some of these concerns.[7]

According to the International Energy Agency, cellulosic ethanol could allow ethanol fuels to play a much bigger role in the future than previously thought.[8] Cellulosic ethanol can be made from plant matter composed primarily of inedible cellulose fibers that form the stems and branches of most plants. Dedicated energy crops, such as switchgrass, are also promising cellulose sources that can be produced in many regions of the United States.[9]

In the U.S., there is potential to expand the market for ethanol fuels beyond the farm states where they have been most popular to date. Flex-fuel vehicles are assisting in this transition because they allow drivers to choose different fuels based on price and availability. The Energy Policy Act of 2005, which calls for 7.5 billion US gallons of biofuels to be used annually by 2012, should also help to expand the U.S. marketThe top five ethanol producers in 2005 were Brazil (4.35 billion US gallons per year), the United States (4.3 billion US gallons per year), China (530 MMgy), the European Union (250 MMgy) and India (80 MMgy). Brazil and the United States accounted for 90 percent of all ethanol production. Also, it should be noted that the United States, now producing at a rate of about 4.6 billion US gallons per year, is widely considered the world’s largest ethanol producer. Strong incentives, coupled with other industry development initiatives, are giving rise to fledgling ethanol industries in countries such as Thailand, the Philippines, Columbia, the Dominican Republic and Malawi. Nevertheless, ethanol hasn't yet made much of a dent in world oil consumption.[32]

Gasoline on the left, alcohol on the right at a filling station in BrazilBrazil has one of the largest bio-fuel programs in the world, involving production of ethanol fuel from sugar cane, and ethanol now provides 18 percent of the country's automotive fuel. As a result of this, together with the exploitation of domestic deep water oil sources, Brazil, which years ago had to import a large share of the petroleum needed for domestic consumption, recently reached complete self-sufficiency in oil.[33][34][35]

Brazil produced around 16.4 billion liters of ethanol in 2004 and used 2.7 million hectares of land area for this production (4.5% of the Brazilian land area used for crop production in 2005[36]). Of this, around 12.4 billion liters were produced as fuel for ethanol-powered vehicles in the domestic market. In Brazil, ethanol-powered and flexible-fuel vehicles are manufactured for operation with hydrated ethanol, an azeotrope of ethanol (around 93% v/v) and water (7%).

Production and use of ethanol has been stimulated through: (1) low-interest loans for the construction of ethanol distilleries; (2) guaranteed purchase of ethanol by the state-owned oil company at a reasonable price; (3) retail pricing of neat ethanol so it is competitive if not slightly favorable to the gasoline-ethanol blend; and (4) tax incentives provided during the 1980s to stimulate the purchase of neat ethanol vehicles.[37]

Guaranteed purchase and price regulation were ended some years ago, with relatively positive results. In addition to these other policies, ethanol producers in the state of Sao Paulo established a research and technology transfer center that has been effective in improving sugar cane and ethanol yields.[38]

      [edit] United States

Most cars on the road today in the U.S. can run on blends of up to 10% ethanol, and motor vehicle manufacturers already produce vehicles designed to run on much higher ethanol blends. Ford, DaimlerChrysler, and GM are among the automobile companies that sell “flexible-fuel” cars, trucks, and minivans that can use gasoline and ethanol blends ranging from pure gasoline up to 85% ethanol (E85). By mid-2006, there were approximately six million E85-compatible vehicles on U.S. roads.[39]

There is potential to expand the market for ethanol fuels beyond the farm states where they have been most popular to date. Flex-fuel vehicles are assisting in this transition because they allow drivers to choose different fuels based on price and availability. The Energy Policy Act of 2005, which calls for 7.5 billion US gallons of biofuels to be used annually by 2012, should also help to expand the U.S. market.[40]

It should also be noted that the growing ethanol and biodiesel industries are providing jobs in plant construction, operations, and maintenance, mostly in rural communities. According to the Renewable Fuels Association, the ethanol industry created almost 154,000 U.S. jobs in 2005 alone, boosting household income by .7 billion. It also contributed about .5 billion in tax revenues at the local, state, and federal levels.[41]

All Swedish gas stations are required by an act of parliament to offer at least one alternative fuel, and every fifth car in Stockholm now drives at least partially on alternative fuels, mostly ethanol.[42]

Stockholm will introduce a fleet of Swedish-made electric hybrid buses in its public transport system on a trial basis in 2008. These buses will use ethanol-powered internal-combustion engines and electric motors. The vehicles’ diesel engines will use ethanol.[43]

Legislation imposes a 10% cap on the concentration of fuel ethanol blends. Blends of 90% unleaded petrol and 10% fuel ethanol are commonly referred to as E10. E10 is available through service stations operating under the BP, Caltex, Shell and United brands as well as those of a number of smaller independents. Not surprisingly, E10 is most widely available closer to the sources of production in Queensland and New South Wales. E10 is most commonly blended with 91 RON "regular unleaded" fuel. There is a requirement that retailers label blends containing fuel ethanol on the dispenser.

      [edit] China
China is promoting ethanol-based fuel on a pilot basis in five cities in its central and northeastern region, a move designed to create a new market for its surplus grain and reduce consumption of petroleum. The cities include Zhengzhou, Luoyang and Nanyang in central China's Henan province, and Harbin and Zhaodong in Heilongjiang province, northeast China. Under the program, Henan will promote ethanol-based fuel across the province by the end of this year. Officials say the move is of great importance in helping to stabilize grain prices, raise farmers' income and reducing petrol- induced air pollution.[44]

      [edit] Environment

      [edit] Energy balance
Main article: Ethanol fuel energy balance
All biomass needs to go through some of these steps: it needs to be grown, collected, dried, fermented and burned. All of these steps require resources and an infrastructure.

Opponents of corn ethanol production in the U.S. often quote the 2005 paper [45] of David Pimentel, a retired Entomologist, and Tadeusz Patzek, a Geological Engineer from Berkeley. Both have been exceptionally critical of ethanol and other biofuels. Their studies contend that ethanol, and biofuels in general, are "energy negative", meaning they take more energy to produce than is contained in the final product.

A 2006 report by the U.S. Department Agriculture compared the methodologies used by a number of researchers on this subject and found that the majority of research showed that the energy balance for ethanol is positive. In fact, a large number of recent studies, including a 2006 article[46] in the prestigious journal Science offer the consensus opinion that fuels like ethanol are energy positive. Furthermore, it should be pointed out that fossil fuels also require significant energy inputs which have seldom been accounted for in the past.

It is also important to note that ethanol is not the only product created during production, and the energy content of the by-products must also be considered. Corn is typically 66% starch and the remaining 33% is not fermented. This unfermented component is called distillers grain, which is high in fats and proteins, and makes good animal feed. [47]

In Brazil where sugar cane is used, the yield is higher, and conversion to ethanol is somewhat more energy efficient than corn.[14] Recent developments with cellulosic ethanol production may improve yields even further.[48]

      [edit] Air pollution
Compared with conventional unleaded gasoline, ethanol is a particulate-free burning fuel source that combusts cleanly with oxygen to form carbon dioxide and water. The Clean Air Act requires the addition of oxygenates to reduce carbon monoxide emissions in the United States. The additive MTBE is currently being phased out due to ground water contamination, hence ethanol becomes an attractive alternative additive.

Use of ethanol, produced from current (2006) methods, emits a similar net amount of carbon dioxide but less carbon monoxide than gasoline.[49] If all bioethanol-production energy came from non-fossil sources the use of bioethanol as a fuel would add no greenhouse gas.[50]

      [edit] Manufacture
In 2002 , monitoring of ethanol plants revealed that they released VOCs (volatile organic compounds) at a higher rate than had previously been disclosed.[51] The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) subsequently reached settlement with Archer Daniels Midland and Cargill, two of the largest producers of ethanol, to reduce emission of these VOCs. VOCs are produced when fermented corn mash is dried for sale as a supplement for livestock feed. Devices known as thermal oxidizers or catalytic oxidizers can be attached to the plants to burn off the hazardous gases. Smog causing pollutants are also increased by using ethanol fuel in comparison to gasoline.

      [edit] Greenhouse gas abatement
Corn ethanol has received much support on environmental grounds primarily because of its role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. However, the evidence for this claim is mixed.

A recent ten-year forecast of ethanol production by the USDA places 2017 corn ethanol production at 12 billion US gallons and growing at only 2% per year. This estimate, together with a parameter publishing in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), indicates that this near-maximum level of ethanol production will abate GHG emissions by 0.13% (~1/10 of 1%) of current US GHG emissions. However, this does not hold for all greenhouse gases. Another study has suggested that replacement of 100% petroleum fuel with E85 (a fuel mixture comprised of 85% ethanol and 15% petroleum) would significantly increase ozone levels, thereby increasing photochemical smog and aggravating medical problems such as asthma.[19][20]

This value reflects increases in corn area and the use of 30% of the corn crop for ethanol. It also apparently takes into account anticipated improvements in corn yields and ethanol production. The PNAS value is a 12% reduction in greenhouse gas emission relative to the "net emissions of production and combustion of an energetically equivalent amount of gasoline."

The January 2006 Science article from UC Berkeley's ERG, estimated this parameter to be 13% after reviewing a large number of studies. However, in a correction to that article releases shortly after publication, they reduce the estimated value to 7.4%. None of the other values needed to complete the calculation are controversial.

GREET model maintained by Argonne National Labs in Chicago has produced a series of publications on GHG abatement through ethanol. The latest of the studies is [21]

      [edit] Land use
Large-scale 'energy farming', necessary to produce agricultural alcohol, requires substantial amounts of cultivated land. Some have claimed that land is acquired through deforestation, while others have observed that areas currently supporting forests are usually not suitable for growing any sort of crops.[52][53] Related concerns have been raised regarding a decline in soil fertility due to reduction of organic matter[54], a decrease in water availability and quality, an increase in the use of pesticides and fertilizers, and potential dislocation of local communities.[55]

As demand for ethanol fuel increases, food crops are replaced by fuel crops, driving food supply down and food prices up. Growing demand for ethanol in the United States has increased corn prices by 50% in Mexico.[56] Average barley prices in the United States rose 17% from January to June 2007 to the highest in 11 years. Prices for all grain crops trend upward, reflecting a progressive increase in farm land devoted to corn for the production of produce ethanol fuel.[57] Prices for U.S. corn-based products, including animal feed, also rise. This translates to higher prices for animal products like chicken, beef, and cheese. June 2007 cheese prices rose to per pound on average, increasing 65% over the same period in 2006. As milk prices in the United States, approached .00 per US gallon, [58] many American restaurant franchises announced price increases for their products to compensate for rising food costs.[59] [60] [61]

Alternatively, cellulosic ethanol can be produced from any plant material, potentially doubling yields, in an effort to minimize conflict between food needs versus fuel needs.[62] Instead of utilizing only the starch bi-products from grinding wheat and other crops, cellulosic ethanol production maximizes the use of all plant materials, including gluten. This approach would have a smaller carbon footprint because the amount of energy-intensive fertilisers and fungicides remain the same for higher output of usable material.[63] While the enzyme technology[64] for producing cellulosic ethanol is currently in developmental stages, it is not expected to be available for large-scale production in the near future.[65] Moreover, the production of ethanol for fuel raises a number of land scarcity issues, regardless of what production method is employed. Many analysts suggest that biofuel strategies must be accompanied by fuel conservation restrictions. [66]

      [edit] Renewable resource
Ethanol is considered "renewable" because it is primarily the result of conversion of the sun's energy into usable energy. Creation of ethanol starts with photosynthesis causing the feedstocks such as switchgrass, sugar cane, or corn to grow. These feedstocks are processed into ethanol (see production).

The environmental and economic benefits of non-cellulosic ethanol - including corn ethanol - have been heavily critiqued by many, including Brad Ewing of Environmental Economics & Sustainable Development[67] and Lester R. Brown of Earth Policy Institute.[68] The main criticism dwells on the increasing costs of corn for food as the demand for ethanol production increases. It remains to be seen [vague] if ethanol production can overcome these problems.

Current, first generation processes for the production of ethanol from corn use only a small part of the corn plant: the corn kernels are taken from the corn plant and only the starch, which represents about 50% of the dry kernel mass, is transformed into ethanol. Two types of second generation processes are under development. The first type uses enzymes to convert the plant cellulose into ethanol while the second type uses pyrolysis to convert the whole plant to either a liquid bio-oil or a syngas. Second generation processes can also be used with plants such as grasses, wood or agricultural waste material such as straw.

      [edit] Replacement of petroleum
Only about 5% of the fossil energy required to produce ethanol from corn in the United States is obtained from non-US petroleum.[69] Current (2006) United States production methods obtain the rest of the fossil energy from domestic coal and natural gas. Even if the energy balance were negative, US production involves mostly domestic fuels such as natural gas and coal so the need for non-US petroleum would be reduced. Developed regions like the United States and Europe, and increasingly the developing nations of Asia, mainly India and China, consume much more petroleum and natural gas than they extract from their territory, becoming dependent upon foreign suppliers as a resultThe science of Economics is generally defined as the study of scarcity management. Absent scarcity and alternative uses of available resources, there is no economic problem. As such, the subject of economics involves the study of choices as they are affected by incentives and resources.[70] Since land and agriculture have historically served the world as utilities for food production, many believe the alternative use of agricultural resources for ethanol fuel production imposes an artificial scarcity of food on a global scale.[71] [72] [73] [74]

Meanwhile, the United States Department of Energy, finds that for every unit of energy put towards ethanol production, 1.3 units are returned.[75] Another study found that corn-grain ethanol produced 1.25 units of energy per unit put in.[76] As yields improve or different feedstocks are introduced, ethanol production may become more economically feasible in the US. Currently, research on improving ethanol yields from each unit of corn is underway using biotechnology. By utilizing hybrids designed specifically with higher extractable starch levels, the energy balance is dramatically improved. Also, as long as oil prices remain high, the economical use of other feedstocks, such as cellulose, become viable. By-products such as straw or wood chips can be converted to ethanol. Fast growing species like switchgrass can be grown on land not suitable for other cash crops and yield high levels of ethanol per unit areaCritics argue that ethanol is a fancy way of using solar power. The processing and production, as well as burning of ethanol would not significantly improve carbon emissions over the current use of gasoline. Instead, critics propose the widespread adoption of battery electric vehicles (zero emissions vehicles) combined with increased use of nuclear power and solar power.

      [edit] Problems
Fuels with more than 10% ethanol are not compatible with some fuel system components.[81][82]
Examples of extreme corrosion of ferrous components,[82] and internal separation of portions of rubber fuel tanks have been observed in some vehicles using ethanol fuels.[citation needed]
Formation of salt deposits, jelly-like deposits on fuel strainer screens
Can negatively affect electric fuel pumps by increasing internal wear[82] and undesirable spark generation. [83]
Is not compatible with capacitance fuel level gauging indicators and may cause erroneous fuel quantity indications in vehicles that employ that system.[84]
Not always compatible with marine craft, especially those that use fiberglass tanks.[85][86]
Decreases fuel-economy by 15-30%; this can be avoided using certain modifications that would, however, render the engine inoperable on regular petrol without the addition of an adjustable ECU, or use of multiple ECUs to run the engine on multiple fuel types. [87][20]
Support for biofuels could keep petroleum prices high in the USA (NY Times - [27])
Tough materials are required to overcome ethanol's corrosive nature, and the high compression ratio needed to make an ethanol engine as efficient as it would be on petrol; these would be similar to those used in diesel engines (which typically run at a CR of 20:1[88], versus about 8-12:1 for petrol engines [89].) Diesel engines cost significantly more than similar-sized ordinary petrol engines as a result of the more advanced materials used in their construction.
Whether the energy balance of ethanol - that is, whether the fuel contains more energy than was used to produce it - is positive or negative is debatable [90][91], as is whether or not the land used to grow the crop was obtained by, say, chopping down a rainforest, in which case the ethanol produced is just as unenvironmentally-friendly as fossil fuel due to the carbon released by the dead plants. [92]

  3. QUESTION:
I wonder how many vegans/vegetarians realize?
...that when vegetables are being harvested, the farming equipment violently kills ground hogs and other such animals in the process?

    • ANSWER:
yes it does, actually when you think about it, growing veggies in general is a very violent process for animals. first you have to work up the ground before you plant, tearing up burrows of moles, mice, and countless insects and worms. then you plant the seeds and plants, the plants grow, insects and animals make their homes among the plants, they feed on the plants and veggies. then it comes time to harvest.when done commercially, or even in bigger home gardens, harvesters and tractors kill a LOT of animals, ive personally seen then kill everything from mice, to groundhogs, and snakes, to baby deer that were hiding in the garden. its really a very violent process. the worst though was one of the big corn harvesters, it caught a baby deer that the mother had bedded down and left, and it took off two of its legs, it was making the worst bawling noise ive ever heard, it had to be finished off....it was just bad....so, in all actuality, just because someone doesnt eat animals, doesnt mean they spare the lives of any more then the guy sitting next to them with steak juice on his fork.

it doesnt bother me if someone decides not to eat meat. thats a personal decision that each person has to make for themselves. what bothers me are the ones that act like they are better then others simply because they wouldnt swat a mosquito it it was feeding on their arm. im sorry. it is impossible to live your live and never be at least indirectly responsible for the death of multiple insects/animals. like i said, its not everyone. just the ones that cant respect others decisions simply because they dont agree.

i can understand what youre saying perfectly prodigy, and thats exactly what i mean.i can respect your decisions, and even though mine really dont mesh with them youre not bashing them. i can handle that. i think if more people presented their side with respect, instead of attacking anyone who doesnt agree, there woulnt be near the tension between the two.....i like your little rat avatar btw....cute.

  4. QUESTION:
What is the best dog for killing ground hogs on a grain farm?
I have a grain farm with fields spread out over a 15 mile radius. The ground hogs are becoming a problem and i need a dog who can take care of the problem. I want to be able to drop the dog off in the field while i work, call for it and then leave. I think i need something with good hunting instincts, easily trainable, obedient, friendly, and good around equipment. I'm thinking border collie but i have a female jack russel and read that collies aren't good around other dogs. also i have a lot of employees and need something somewhat friendly. The dog will have its rabies shots so im not to worried about that. mange may be a problem, so i may want a short haired dog that wouldn't be as susceptible to it. also any training advice would be appreciated. thanks.

    • ANSWER:
Terriers. They are bred for killing varmints. The Jack Russel is a tunneler, as is the Rat Terrier, and they are tenacious. Small schnauzers, (all Schnauzers) are terriers, and they're even more tenacious.
But definitely some sort of Terrier.

  5. QUESTION:
CAN I STILL FARM WITH A FARMALL H?
Hi i am 17 and i am going to get into the cattle business within the next 5 years for a side job approximately 25 to 30 acre piece of property to raise about 15 cattle and the rest use for hay and forge making. i have bought a lot of equipment in the last year so when i get the farm i can get right to work. I have a Farmall A and a H, two 2 bottom trailer plows, 2 manure spreaders, a drag, a 2 row corn planter and a 5 foot bush hog for mowing pastures and making hay and a set of cultivators. i still have to get a hay rake and a baler but everything else i have to get stated. All of my equipment is either refurbished or is in good working condition. i am only doing what i can afford and the equipment i am buying may be old but it still works and its all i can afford right now. can i still use this stuff in a small operation like mentioned above?

    • ANSWER:
that wont be a side job with that tractor, more like second job.geez you could buy something with some hp and your plowing would go alot faster.even 80-90 hp is weak for plowing, then again, nobody trying to make money would ever use a 2 bottom plow either.fuel costs money.newer tractors use more fuel but the work load difference is incredible.look into a jd 4440 or something like that.they can be had.

  6. QUESTION:
What should my salary be?? (Warehouse Purchasing Manager)?
I now work as the receptionist at a hog producer & Grain Purchasing office, I'm about to have the opportunity to advance to "warehouse manager" (someone is leaving) I have been trained the basics of this job so I could help out once in a while when the worker was sick or needed to be out for any reason. My duties will include but are not limited to: Purchasng supplies for Sow Farms (pigs) distributing the supplies, keeping up with meds, invoices, data entry for each farm. (We have 8 farms by the way) Purchasing office equipment, and making sure the office is always supplied with daily paper, pens, etc, supplies. I've looked it up, and seems the average makes about - per hour, does anyone agree? help I don't want to get cheated out of whats rightfully mine!

    • ANSWER:
Go to http://www.salary.com/ or http://www.salaryexpert.com/ and enter the data for the job.

  7. QUESTION:
If I sold something for what I felt it was worth, do I owe taxes on it?
I bought a small farm and it came with some old tractor equipment. I figured it was worth about grand because there were several brush hog mowers, post hold diggers (all 3 point). Well anyway I put an ad on Craigslist. I thought the equipment was worth about grand, but somebody offered me grand for it all. Well needless to say I took it. I don't know if I owe taxes on the personal property. It all "just came with" the land.
The items were part of the land purchase. In the same contract. The wording was like "land and all machinery".

It was ONE sale price. Never broken down.
***The land and machinery purchase price was 0k***
Well really additional equipment like it used on Craigslist is selling for -15k.... I mean can I take "fair market prices" and go from there? I don't want to report a loss, but I certainly did not gain.

    • ANSWER:
      1) Check in your state about sales tax obligations for equipment.
      2) Keep good records since you may need them when you eventually sell the property.
      3) When in doubt, don't do anything.
      4) How about SAVING some of the money in a rainy day account just in case you eventually need to pay some unforeseen obligation.

All of my equipment is either refurbished or is in good working condition. i am only doing what i can afford and the equipment i am buying may be old but it still works and its all i can afford right now. can i still use this stuff in a small operation like mentioned above?

    • ANSWER:
Sorry, but what you're considering just isn't sustainable.

You've got way too much equipment, too little land, and too many projects.

With only 25 to 30 acres, you should pick just one crop. Or just raise cows. Pick one of those, then get rid of all that equipment that doesn't apply.

Horse Drawn Farm Equipment For Sale

Modern And Diverse Farm Machinery For Sale At Amazing Prices From National Machinery Modern and diverse farm machinery for sale including but not limited to wood chippers, slashers, backhoes and tractor units ranging from a modest twenty five horse powered small unit to a monster with an eighty two horse power unit have changed the face of agriculture over an extremely short period of history. The diversity of farming machinery and implements as well as tractor types and power options belies the fact that for thousands of years the only tools farmers were using in the day to day management of farms knives, scythes, and wooden ploughs and these basic but certainly ingenious implements changed little in design over thousands of years.
It wasnt until about 1701 when the horse drawn seed drill invented by Jethro Tull revolutionised planting time on farms that things started to heat up. The subsequent manufacturing of metal plough shears meant that at a stroke the cost of ploughs which up till this point were made entirely from wood plummeted as too did maintenance costs associated with labour intensive equipment.
More robust than wooden ploughs and of course able to cut deeper and with little maintenance required, cultivation of the land took a giant leap forward in terms of efficiency and effectiveness. The downside to this improvement in efficiency saw the beginning of the shedding over the course of a century or more of many hundreds of thousands of farm labouring jobs and the gradual move away of the farm being the centre of communal life in rural communities.
To say mechanisation of farming has had a big influence in the subsequent breakdown of rural communities and the ties which bound them together cannot be underestimated and it was this subsequent industrialisation of farming which heralded, in the early to middle part of the nineteenth century, an exodus of many people from rural communities to towns and cities across Europe, and indeed to a certain extent the rest of the world.
Throughout all this the continuing development of specialised farming implements and machinery has seen a wide and diverse range of tractor sizes along with crop and/or task specific machinery appear on the market to fill ever increasingly diverse farming methods.
Modern farm machinery for sale much with specialised end use is available from National Machinery; log on to the website today for all contact details and some interesting video presentations explaining the use of and parameters of operation, the address of which is http://www.NationalMachinery.com.au.

Homemade Farm Equipment

06. Homemade Compost Bins & Commercial Worm Farming
06. Homemade Compost Bins & Commercial Worm Farming

When you are preparing the compost container for a worm farm, ascertain that the bedding is moist before you put in the worms. If you live in warm or hot climates, ensure that the bin is in the shade. Waste can be added daily or weekly, depending on your convenience.

When the worms commence eating, they ingest about half of their weight. Subsequently, as they are accustomed to the feed, they consume about their own weight. The previous feedings should be consumed by the worms before new food is added. Otherwise set up another bin if you have more waste food to dispose.

Many people start with a modest worm farm. It's a good idea to have a collection tray underneath the compost bin for drainage. This will prevent messy spillage. Wood soaks up water more than plastic; thus wooden bins will have less drainage than plastic ones.

When using a small container, consider its storage and the feeding of worms. These bins can be set up in one of three ways:

Continuous vertical flow The trays are stacked up on top of one another. The bottom tray gets filled first. When this tray gets full, it is not harvested but a thick layer of bedding is added on top and another tray is stacked above for adding organic material. Worms finish composting the materials in the bottom tray and then migrate to the one above. When a sufficient number of worms migrated, the worm compost at the lowermost tray can be collected and should be relatively free of worms. These bins provide an easier method of harvesting, as they do not all have to be emptied out.

Continuous horizontal flow This method is much like the vertical except that the trays are clicked together side-to-side instead of stacked. With this method, the worms tend to move toward food so that it will be easier for harvesting purposes. The bin is usually longer. A chicken wire screen divides the bin into two parts.

Non-continuous This method uses an undivided container. At the bottom, a layer of organic matter is placed on a bedding that is used as a liner. Worms are added next. Then another layer of bedding is included on top of that. When that's complete, composting will begin with the bedding and organic matter. This type of bin is small and easy to build, but difficult to harvest because all the materials and worms must be emptied out when harvesting.

Building a large scale commercial worm farm are for those who wish to establish a business. There are two types. Windrows are more commonly used. Windrows are worm farms that are made into long rows. Organic matter is piled in long rows.

These provide plenty of organic matter for the worms to consume. Only one side of the windrows is used for feeding the worms. With time, the worm bed widens and the worm castings on the back of the row can then be harvested.

The second method uses a raised bed. On the top of the bed, the worms eat about an inch of food that is laid across the top.

The leftover castings are harvested by using a breaker bar that pulls them across a large mesh screen. This screen is used to act as the worm bed's base. However, the worms and castings are not separated before packaging. It is advisable to do this indoors and is best for warmer weather.

Tourism in metropolitan Detroit Market overview
Tourists can ride in a Model T in Greenfield Village at The Henry Ford, a National Historic Landmark.
The metropolitan region's tourism industry depends on drawing large crowds to positively impact the local economy. As the world's traditional automotive center, the city hosts the annual North American International Auto Show in January, a multi-day event. Other major multi-day events which reflect the region's culture such as the Motown Winter Blast and the Windsor-Detroit International Freedom Festival can draw super sized-crowds of hundreds of thousands to over three million people. In 2006, the four-day Motown Winter Blast drew a cold weather crowd of about 1.2 million people to Campus Martius Park area downtown. Metro Detroit is one of thirteen U.S. cities with teams from four major sports.
Besides casino gaming, the region's leading attraction is The Henry Ford, America's largest indoor-outdoor museum complex, a museum entertainment complex with an IMAX theater next to the Automotive Hall of Fame in Dearborn. The Detroit Institute of Arts in the cultural center downtown is another leading attraction. The Detroit Festival of the Arts in Midtown draws about 350,000 people. The Detroit Zoo in Royal Oak has the nation's largest polar bear exhibit, the Arctic Ring of Wildlife. The zoo has a train which encircles the park. Together, The Henry Ford, the Detroit Institute of Arts, and the Zoo attract about 2,500,000 visitors annually.
Greektown in Detroit
Another automotive attraction cataloging the history of the industry is the Chrysler Museum in Auburn Hills. Historic tours of the mansions of the auto barons such as Meadowbrook Hall in Rochester Hills, Edsel and Eleanor Ford House in Grosse Pointe, Henry Ford's Fair Lane Estate in Dearborn, and the Lawrence Fisher Mansion in Detroit are available.
The city's Greektown is a busy entertainment district. The city has evolved into a center for the major casino resorts - MGM Grand Detroit, Motor City Casino, Greektown Casino, and Caesars Windsor just across the river in Canada. The metropolitan region's potential to attract super-sized crowds should not be underestimated. Just across the river, Caesars Windsor attracts about six million visitors annually. More than fifteen million people cross the Ambassador Bridge and the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel annually. An estimated 46 million people live within a 300 mile (480 km) radius of Metro Detroit. Since 2000, the city has seen continuous annual increases in tax revenues from its casinos; the city collected and estimated 8,250,000 in casino taxes alone for 2007, with the casino resorts open in 2008. The Detroit International Riverfront hosts an events including the Windsor-Detroit International Freedom Festival in late June with one of the nation's largest displays of fireworks and the Electronic Music Festival on Memorial Day weekend. The New York Times listed Detroit among its 53 world travel destinations for 2008.
Movie studios in the metro area help establish the state as a legitimate contender in the 12-month-a-year film business. Detroit Center Studios (2009) will debut at the downtown building which was the start-up casino for MGM Grand to create digital animation and visual effects. Motown Motion Picture Studios (2009) with 600,000 square feet will produce movies at the Pontiac Centerpoint Business Campus for a film industry expected to employ over 4,000 people in the metro area.
Hospitality infrastructure
Cruise ships, hotels, and resorts
Detroit Princess Riverboat charter hosts regularly scheduled public cruises.
MGM Grand Detroit.
The Dock of Detroit on Hart Plaza near the Renaissance Center receives major cruise ships and tall ships. The Great Lakes Cruising Coalition supports passenger ship cruises through a joint U.S-Canadian venture to Great Lakes Ports and the St. Lawrence Seaway. Tri-Centennial State Park and Harbor in downtown Detroit offers public docks for boaters.
Besides its casino resorts, the Detroit area has tens of thousands of hotel rooms. The city's hospitality industry has hosted many major conventions as well as sporting events. The Marriott corporation and Starwood Hotels (Westin and Sheraton) have a significant presence in the region. The area has many luxury hotels and resorts including the historic Westin Book Cadillac Hotel which was restored in 2008. Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center and the Omni Detroit Hotel at Riverplace have waterfront views. An example of investment in the city's historic downtown area is the restored Inn at Ferry Street, a collection of Victorian bed and breakfasts in the cultural district near the Detroit Institute of Arts. Downtown Detroit has about 5,000 hotel rooms, with 4,000 in walking distance of its Cobo Hall convention center. The suburb of Novi has about 5,300 hotels rooms within a 10-mile radius and the suburb of Pontiac has about 5,800 within a 10-mile radius.
In 2003, General Motors completed a 0 million redevelopment of the Renaissance Center as its world headquarters. The east riverfront promenade development was planned at and additional 9 million, including 5 million from GM and million from the Kresge Fundation. The International Riverfront is linked by the River Walk, a promenade along connecting the cruise ship dock on Hart Plaza to a series of parks, restaurants, Asian Village, retail shops, and other venues from the Marriott at the Renaissance Center to the Omni Hotel at Riverplace on the historic Stroh's riverplace site. Compuware CEO Peter Karmanos would played in the financing to reconstruct the city's historic restoration of Campus Martius Park which now hosts events such as the Motown Winter Blast in January attracting large crowds.
Shopping and restaurants

Several restaurant clusters with shopping districts and malls may be found throughout the region including Greektown, downtown, the Renaissance Center, Somerset Collection mall, Troy, Grosse Pointe, Dearborn, Rochester, Rochester Hills, Livonia, Ann Arbor and other suburbs.
Metropolitan Detroit has a variety of major shopping venues such as the upscale Somerset Collection mall in Troy which mall developers consider to be among the nation's top privately held mall properties with 2004 annual sales of about 0 million and sales per square foot at 0 compared to the national average of 1. The Mall at Partridge Creek is an upscale outdoor lifestyle center located in Clinton Township. Other notable shopping malls in Detroit include Lakeside Mall in Sterling Heights, Laurel Park Place in Livonia, Twelve Oaks Mall in Novi, which was expanded in 2007 to include Nordstrom; and Great Lakes Crossing, an outlet mall in Auburn Hills which is among the largest malls in Michigan.
A new shopping center, the Shoppes at Gateway Park, is slated for construction in 2009-10 within Detroit's city limits. When complete, the outdoor mall will provide the city of Detroit proper with its first full-line department store in nearly a decade.
The Eastern Market Historic District, a farmer's distribution center in downtown Detroit, is the largest open-air flowerbed market in the United States and has more than 150 foods and specialty businesses. On Saturdays, about 45,000 people shop the city's historic Eastern Market.
Political impact
The city's mayor in the 1990s, Dennis Archer, also a former Michigan Supreme Court Justice, supported a plan which resulted in new casino resorts as a catalyst for urban development in Detroit. Initially, Archer's plan was for a casino cluster along the east riverfront. In April 2005, after an eight-year legal battle over the bidding process, the courts cleared the way for the City of Detroit to permit its temporary casinos to build all new casino resorts, to open in late 2007. The settlement was further complicated by MGM's acquisition of Mandalay Bay, then owner of the Motor City Casino. Upon acceptance of the settlement, Detroit entrepreneur Marion Illitch exercised her option to purchase Motor City Casino, outbidding other partners. The plan for the casino resort locations changed as the city decided instead to have the a promenade of parks along the International Riverfront to spur residential development, thus freeing the casinos to build in other areas of downtown. Detroit is the largest American city and metropolitan region to offer casino resorts.
2008 Tour De Troit.
There are .3 billion in new construction projects downtown. In 2007, complementing the MGM Grand Detroit, DTE Energy announced a million transformation of the area around its downtown headquarters into an urban oasis with parks, walkways, and a reflecting pool. Completion of the MGM Grand Detroit resort in 2007 has opened new prospects for future development downtown with the west riverfront area and the area from MGM Grand Detroit to the Michigan Central Station. The question of how to finance a new convention facility to accommodate the expanding needs of the North American International Auto Show generated media attention and speculation with Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson's proposal for a fourth casino resort to anchor the convention center following the example of the Las Vegas Sands Expo convention center which would need approval from a state wide referendum. Governor Jennifer Granholm ultimately signed legislation on July 2, 2009 for a nearly 0 million expansion of Cobo Center; the plan calls for a 166,000 square foot addition. The legislation created a five-member board, appointed by the governor, the City of Detroit, and Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties to oversee the operation of the center with the city retaining ownership. The project, which also calls for the demolition of Cobo Arena in order to expand the center began October 1, 2009. Redevelopment design concepts include the possible addition of glass walls to connect the complex with the waterfront.
Detroit's geographic proximity to Windsor, Ontario provides for spectacular views and nightlife, along with Ontario's 19-and-older drinking age. The political clout of beer-drinking consumers has grown in the state, with politicians concerned about a backlash from the "beer vote" over a possible increase in the beer tax.
A strategy entitled Pure Michigan resulted in the State's tourism website ranking as the busiest in the nation. Metro Detroit "urban destinations" such as The Henry Ford, the Detroit Institute of Arts, and the Detroit Zoo were also emphasized in the strategy. This led to support for proposals for increased funding in 2008 for the Travel Michigan budget from Detroit area legislators.

Horse Drawn Farming Equipment

DUI Penalties for First Timers As Well
You must be aware that everyday many drivers are arrested because of DUI and this is really a matter of shame. Breath test is compulsory and the legal drinking age is kept is 21 years for most of the states. If you have committed this offense for the first time then too you will be entangled in the legalities of the law. And if you have committed this for the 2nd or 3rd time then really it is a matter of concern.

Whether it is for the first time or second time, you will need DUI lawyer so that he can help you out to face reduced charges or reduced penalties. Many people avoid contacting DUI Attorneys because they feel that it is merely waste of time and a person will have to face the probable consequences. But this should not be done. It is important that you select a reputed DWI Attorney so that you can get some help. Sometimes there are chances that you may not fall under the limit of alcohol consumption and this may be like a ray of light for you. But again, you will not be able to handle the entire legal process all alone. You will need a reputed attorney who will fight your case.

Above all, if you meet with an accident then things can really be worse. That's the reason why, you should get in touch with DWI lawyers as soon as you start driving. Justice system is really quite strict for the drivers. Drinking drivers do not receive too much of sympathy. There are many things that the driver may have to face and this includes monetary penalties, jail sentence etc. When you are caught under the clutches of the problem you will have to contact an attorney who will try to give you the least discomfort.

But again, we can not speak anything bad about the justice system because it is right on its part. It tries the best to avoid mishaps and accidents. It is the matter of lives of the people after all and thus when people drink and drive, this is something that won't be tolerated. But still, some really innocent people get into the problems and for them contacting an attorney who deals in DUI cases should be an apt solution. There are chances that such an innocent person can get out of the problem smoothly.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
I am looking to buy some antique horse drawn farm equipment.?
I'm looking for like old horse drawn dump rakes, harrows, ground rollers, hay tedders ect. Any idea on what web site I might go to to sell or buy any of this kind of stuff.

    • ANSWER:
You could try going out in the country and asking the farmers. Or maybe an estate sale out in the country were the farmer died or decided to get out of farming. There are also flea markets, we have a big one south of me run mostly by the Amish farmers and they have all kinds of stuff and junk too. The flea market is so big the 2 times I went there I wasn't able to go through the whole thing. Some old antiques shops may have smaller stuff too.

  2. QUESTION:
i have some old horse and tractor drawn farm equipment that i would like to sell any ideas on who wants to buy?

    1900s to1940s disc,plow,cultivators,dumprakes,automatic land leveler,steel seats,steel wheels, one row potato diggers.
i live in southeast idaho have rough idea on prices but just mainly whatever they are worth my # iks 208-200-7282

    • ANSWER:
Yes I would like to have the Horse drawn stuff need your location prices ect

      Bob

  3. QUESTION:
Would you pay extra for you food from a farmer's market if...?
it came from a farm that used only horse drawn equipment, and used the horses to pull the wagon with produce to the farmer's market?

Why, or why would you not pay more? (not a huge amount more, but still more than most would be charging)

    • ANSWER:
IF I can afford to buy from a non-mechanical (ish) farm I would be willing to pay a bit more - as I would for organic. I also prefer local, family business over the big corporation.

  4. QUESTION:
Why can't the Amish have electricity?
What is it about electricity? They can have kerosene powered stuff and can take farm equipment and turn it to horse drawn, if the documentary I saw was right, but they can't have electric...... why?

    • ANSWER:
Amish get on my nerves.........do they still get a pass from joining the service

  5. QUESTION:
    Questions about amish folk?
What is the reasoning behind not using techonology?
What time/type of technology is used as the cut off point for not using anything newer?
What was the reasoning for the above answer?

And lastly, how important is it for amish people to not "bend" these rules? i ask this one because i've seen horse and buggys at the gas station filling up on diesel fuel. They use this on diesel powered farm equipment which is confusingly drawn by horses.
    Are they simply confused?
    Do they endorse animal cruelty?

    whats the deal here?
Animal cruelty was a bad choice of words. I know they take care of their animals. But why have animals do work that machines (with no nervous system) can do better?

    • ANSWER:

Hobby Farm Equipment

Buying A Hobby Farm
If you love orchards, livestock and crops, then you are well suited to buy a hobby farm. This type of property is not going to give you much income but you are going to run it for recreational purposes. This type f farm has become very popular over the years as the world goes green and takes steps to protect the environment. Many people are now beginning to own farms just for the sake of doing something to protect the environment.

The interest of the owner in a hobby farm is not profit. He is rather looking forward to enjoying the property and making it his leisure. For this reason you would be finding a m Dollar residential property been built o farmland which crops are less than ,000 I value.

Typically a hobby farm has more of residential facilities than crops or livestock. You usually have a well-maintained farm adjacent to a well renovated farm house.

You can use an agent to buy a hobby farm just like you will do with other conventional properties. The agent been a professional will get you properties that best matches you interest and are free from any legal disputes. The agent will also be able to get you a good price and good location.
However if you don't want to use an agent, you can apply some simple steps to get an equally good hobby farm. You may have to do a little search but eventually you will get a farm that will help you pursue your past time.

You may want to ask yourself where you want the hobby farm to be located at. The answer to this question will depend on whether you are going to stay at the place or not. If you intend to stay there, then it must be close to work. This way you can be able to get to work and back without much trouble. If you intend to use it a kind of vacation site, then distance may not be a factor for you.

If you want to use the hobby farm as a full residential facility, you may have to ensure that the type of buildings there match your needs. There should be enough facilities to make you feel as convenient as possible. If there is no building initially and you are going to build one, then you must ensure that the zoning conditions of the area support that. Rural areas usually have restrictions about what you ca do or not do on certain lands.

Do you intend to have animals on the farm? You will have to find out first if you have the permission to do so. Many farms are for livestock only and will not have animals. If they should allow animals and you want to bring some there, are you ready to invest or buy the appropriate equipment or inputs to make the animals safe and meet regulations? For example you may have to fence the property to prevent the livestock fro straying.

Assess the state of the residential facilities. How much will you need to renovate the land and make it habitable? If you require upgrading, how much will that cost?

Consider other activities that you are interested in. If you like fishing, then you need to buy a farm near a water body so you can be able to pursue your sports. A creek, river or stream would be ideal I this case. If you like hunting, then a wooded area with wildlife would be idea. Hikers will want a place with trails and kayakers will need fast moving waters.

If you have finished doing all your considerations, then you may want to head towards Missouri and Pennsylvania which are well noted for marvelous farmlands.

  2. QUESTION:
About how much do you think it would cost to own/manage a hobby goat farm?
If i were to own enough land for a small hobby farm about how much do you think it would cost? including these animals and equipment:
    3 (pet/weathered) goats
    fencing
    barn
    hay/grain/food
    bedding
other stuff you might be able to think of
    thanks a ton

    • ANSWER:
It really depends on where you live.
3 pet goats around here could cost you nothing or up to if you get them while still nursing.
We use cattle panels for fencing and you can sometimes find them used but new they range around each. Other people find that their goats will learn to stay behind 3 or 4 strands of hot wire or rope. That's much less expensive. Premier fencing has some great product.
Wethers usually don't need any grain but do need a good mineral made just for goats, or a horse mineral in a pinch. I can get enough mineral for 3 goats for a month or so (if they've been getting mineral all along.) for from to depending on what kind and where I get it.
Straw is getting hard to find and a 35 to 40 pound bale make cost from to depending on where you get it and how long it will last depends on how big a place you're bedding.
Hay can run from .75 in the middle of summer if you buy direct from the farmer to if from a feed store, perhaps even higher. The bale will weigh between 40 and 50 pounds. How much your goat will eat depends on breed and if you have suitable pasture or browse.
You'll need hoof nippers, collars, water buckets, water heaters if you live where it gets cold, wormer and shots. Price on these depends on your vet.

  3. QUESTION:
    Anyone have a hobby farm?
I have a nice rural 10 acer lot upstate new york that is a hay field. I give the hay to the farmer next door to me in return for keeping the property from being over grown since I don't have equipment to maintain it. about 800-900 bails per year
May build soon and would like to utilize the property and get my hands dirty. Don't know were to begin and what works. has anyone experience this?
I have very hard time getting people to do work up there no one ever shows up, that's why I give it to him. I know he will get done and Its important for the quality of future growth. I live 280 miles away from this lot now for that reason its worth it for me until I live their.
I've been thinking along the lines of small greenhouses, small animals, practical self sufficiency. some way subsidize income

  4. QUESTION:
Where to find more information on starting an organic hobby farm?
5 acres land, 3 acres devoted to farmland (of which 1 devoted to wheat, 1 devoted to corn, and 1 devoted to garden of various vegetables ). 1 acre for self use and property (house, workshop, etc.), and 1 acre for an orchard (fruit). Wouldnt be at all as sole income, but part time. To provide food for family, but also to sell so we could keep up with the costs of owning a hobby farm, and possibly make a little extra money on the side. Just wanting information, as not a decision I will have to make anytime soon, but having information early helps you plan and set realistic goals. So any websites or books or things you feel could provide me with more information, and if you would have an approximate estimation of the cost annually for this (both the higher cost the first year with purchase of equipment, and cost per year to sustain a hobby farm such as this, would be great). Also if you are from Canada and know around how much the land would be initially to purchase (does not matter so much what province, but would like it to be near a small town <3,000-12,000>, and maybe a 3 hour drive or so from a city if needed to get things not available in the town. Obviously this is overgeneralized, and as I said, it is not something I would be doing for quite a few years, but I would like to get the information now so if it is something i choose to do I can start planning now. Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
I have been making my living farming 9 acres for 17 years.

      http://www.attra.org
      http://www.rodaleinstitute.org
http://www.growingformarket.com (this publication/website is worth every penny they charge for a subscription)
      http://www.acresusa.com

Get any and all books by Eliot Coleman, especially the New Organic Grower.

If you want to make any money from your farm be no more than 1 hour from a city because you will sell very little in a small town or city. Living close to a university town is best.

  5. QUESTION:
10 Acre Hobby Farm in Florida Help Please.?
I have no experience with farming, but it has been my dream to have a small one for the family to eat healthy, organically and get back to nature. I am experienced with small scale gardening and my husband has some experience raising chickens. I just started my research and any advice would be most helpful.

We are already buying equipment to start an aquaponics garden and are looking for fish that would be perfect for our climate. I'm not so worried about the gardening, it's livestock that's really foreign to me.

We were thinking of getting a small chicken coop. Would 3 laying hens, 3 brooder hens and one rooster suffice for a family of four? I was thinking of getting 2 piglets and a boar, but heard that care for them could be quit expensive. How much would it cost? We would also like to 2 female dexters and one male for milking and breeding, and add some fruit baring trees.

It's important to note that our overall goal is to live totally off of the land getting much of our food intake from produce and livestock we grow. Does our stock sound reasonable given the amount of acreage. Also, I will be the only one tending the animals & garden for the most part, as he works full-time, which is a big factor in how much we can do. Links & Contacts are very much appreciated.

    • ANSWER:
Big question: Please describe the process by which you will milk a male dexter

It depends on what you want to do with the chickens.

    • ANSWER:
I definitely think you need more chickens. A hen will usually lay one egg a day, so with three laying hens, you're only going to have three eggs a day (if they all produce an egg every day). I generally eat three eggs for breakfast just myself.

Figure up how many eggs you're going to need a day (remember they're used in cakes, cornbread, etc), then determine how many chickens you will need.

Hogs will get out of their pen if given half a chance. Put rings in their noses, and run a strand of barbwire around the bottom of the pen so they don't try to escape.

I also suggest going to amazon.com and looking for some books regarding this. Another thing you can do is contact your local county extension office (if they have those in FL).

Im sorry for being unclear.... I want to start it as a Hobby farm with room to grow into a self sustained business, I know i cannot make a living off of a small hobby farm with ducks and chickens and... Goats?

    • ANSWER:
I sounds to me like you are working on dreams and not facts. Hobby farming is tough enough, and making money is even tougher. If your real objective is money, I would look for something that doesn't cost a lot and doesn't tie up your time like farming animals will do.

A business plan should be your first step. Just do a search. There are books and software that will help

  8. QUESTION:
What is the liklehood I will be able to start a dairy farm in 3 years?
Hello I'm 17 and plan on going to a tech school for farming and then starting a Wisconsin dairy farm in 3 years or so. I just want to know how likely it would be for me to be able to get a loan for it. I currently live on a now hobby farm, milk on another farm, and feed on a third farm. the farm I live on used to be a dairy farm 6 years ago. I have almost all necessary equipment except a mixer and skidsteer and I have 120 acres of land. We have an old fashioned dairy barn but its pretty run down and I would like to put up a 150 cow free stall barn with a double 8 parlor, dry cow barn, manure pit, and commodity shed. All calves would be custom raised by a local custom heifer raiser since I know I won't even have enough feed for just the cows and I will have to purchase some. I really want to continue farming and want some farmers or loan advisors thoughts on what the likeliness of me being able to get a loan for this would be.

    • ANSWER:
Look into the USDA Farm Service Agency. This is the program my Dad used to finance his dairy farm when he first started farming in the 50s and again in the 70s when he relocated to another state. http://www.fsa.usda.gov

As far as the likelihood, well, I guess that all depends on what you already have. Does your family own this 120 acres of property? If not, you'll have a tough time borrowing money to build permanent structures -- such as the barns, corrals, milk house, manure pits, drainage ponds, etc. These can easily costs hundreds of thousands of dollars.

I grew up in a dairy community :) and except for the rich kids who inherited farms from their parents, most young people I knew started out with a rented farm that came with all the equipment needed to start a dairy operation. As they built up their herds and developed their business, then the next step was to tap into the FSA for a business loan.

Going to a tech school is a really smart idea because running a dairy farm operation is not as easy as it looks. While milking the cows is simple enough, it's dealing with bureaucratic red tape (ie zoning laws, health department) and all that other stuff that makes it complicated.

  10. QUESTION:
    Garden Tractor Advice?
Just wondering if anyone has any input... we're moving soon to a small hobby farm, where we'll be keeping a couple of horses. I've started research what sort of tractor will best suit my needs. I'm pretty sure I'll require a garden tractor in the 24-28 HP range, but I want to be sure.

Primary uses for this equipment will be A) mowing (this will be by far the biggest usage), B) pulling an arena drag or cart with materials, and C) Moving small to moderate amounts of snow. Total acreage on the farm is nearly 15 acres, but much of that is covered with woods, pasture, outbuildings, etc. Total mowing area is probably going to be less than 5 acres.

The snow-moving requirement is the one that makes me think I'll need the most tractor I can get. This would be used to move snow up to 6 inches deep, anything beyond that I would be calling a plow. A friend has told me that he doesn't think a riding tractor will really be useful at moving snow, although I'm not sure he grasps the difference in power and weight between lawn and garden tractors. If a large garden tractor ISN'T going to move snow, am I looking at more power than I need?

That being said, this tool WILL be a workhorse on the farm, as I truly can't see the need for an actual compact tractor (and don't want to incur that cost). I'd love to hear any feedback on this, feel free to make any equipment recommendations as well (I'm leaning towards Craftsman Pro and Husqvarna).

    thanks a ton!

    • ANSWER:
You are right about your friend not getting the difference. Your tractor should move snow just fine. You will need a snow blade with power angle or you will be trying to pull frozen bolts to change the angle - a real pain. I'd also suggest that you have a front end loader in case of a hundred year storm that dumps two or more feet of snow. If that happens you will not be able to find anyone that is not under contract in your area - plan on doing the job yourself (been there and done that).

As far as horsepower ratings, talk to your dealer but keep in mind that lower rated tractors will usually do the job, just more slowly. Proper technique helps quite a bit.

Finally, consider adding a plow to your 4x4 pickup. Its faster than a tractor and a damn site warmer and easier to start in the winter. You can plow with the storm and thus handle higher snow falls. Once you're done you can work your neighbors and probably pay for the plow in a year or two.

    outdoor hobby ideas??????????????
I walk, and I do bowling club. Bowling I just mess around with friends and I don't count walking as a hobby. I used to run and ski but both are no fun since I don't have anyone to do them with. I am 16 so my mom has to buy equipment. I am both a girly girl and a tomboy. I was thinking motor cross but i want something that's all year around and not expensive. If you cant think of something that's all year around that's fine. I live in a cow town that's all farming. Nothing here but farms, a school, a library, and a park. Any fun physical ideas?

    • ANSWER:
You don't have to do mainly motocross, you can just trail ride. It isn't expensive (after you buy a bike) to just go ride a trail or just around the house. Since you live in a small town the local yokels might no care if you ride. Id probably check with your cops first though about riding around town, mine don't care but yours might impound your bike and give you a nice ticket.

Carhartt Clothing & Carhartt Workwear - Coveralls and Overalls
Overalls are essential for any worker that needs to protect his clothes from the elements and still be able to access tools and other items for the job. Overalls such as Carhartt outerwear overalls are the quintessential covering for mechanics, farm workers or anyone that just needs protection from the elements and grease and dirt.

The History of Overalls

Overalls have been around since the 1700’s when explosive manufacturers used them. People that worked with phosphorus, such as in match plants, were also required to wear overalls to protect themselves from the corrosive nature of the phosphorus. Only the workers that put matches in boxes were not required to wear them.

Overalls Are Invented

While Carhartt outerwear overalls haven’t been around since the 1700’s, they have been around since 1889 when Hamilton Carhartt invented the first pair of railroad engineer overalls. The rest, they say, is history, and today Carhartt offers a line of different overalls for many different work purposes.

Types Of Overalls

Overalls come in varying types, like the Carhartt outerwear duck bib overall for men. The duck bib overall is not the typical denim overall that one may be used to seeing. Rather, it’s made from heavy-duty cotton duck cotton and is lined for added warmth. This type of overall is made for the person that works on heavy farm equipment or machinery where they may kneel down a lot to reach low spots. The overalls in the Carhartt outerwear line offer double knees to accommodate kneepads.

Another type of overall is the denim overall that Hamilton Carhartt first invented back in the late 1800’s. These overalls have not only been popular with workers and farmers, but also on the fashion set as well in the 1970’s. Parents continue to put children in denim overalls today because of the ease of getting the child in and out of them.

Coveralls

Coveralls differ from overalls in that a coverall could be completely substituted for clothing, whereas overalls generally still need a shirt underneath. Coveralls, also known as boilersuits, can also be seen as a type of jumpsuit. The Carhartt outerwear line offers a coverall that is popular with mechanics and other workers that are frequently exposed to grease and other grime and need premium coverage to stay protected and clean.

Coveralls are useful because they have no gap between the jacket and pants, thus nothing to get caught in machine parts. Coveralls in the Carhartt outerwear line have multiple tool and utility pockets. This is a hallmark of coveralls, as it is important for the worker to have everything he needs in one place.

Coveralls and overalls are both essential tools for the farm worker, mechanic or factory worker. They offer protection for your street clothes as well as for yourself from machine parts and grime. The Carhartt outerwear line offers both coveralls and overalls for most any workers need. It’s simply a matter of finding the work clothes that are right for you.

  3. QUESTION:
How does one ship heavy equipment from Seattle to Vietnam?
Hello - How does one go about shipping heavy equipment (tractors, backhoes, farm and construction vehicles) from Seattle to Vietnam? One of my adult students is working on a project and asked for my help and I have NO IDEA how to do such a thing.

    Thank you in advance.

    • ANSWER:
The equipment will have to go into a container and shipped across the Pacific. Possibly one on the major shipping lines (MOL, APL, Hanjin) has direct service to Vietnam from Seattle. Understand though, you cannot just pull up to a dock and drop off a tractor for shipping. You will have to go through a freight forwarding company. The big freight expediter in Seattle is: Expeditors International - see the link below. They will pickup, pack up, deal with customs, etc. You will have to contact them, get a bid and they will act as the middleman for the shipping. It will not be cheap.

  12. QUESTION:
Any Way To Stop A Blasting Quarry From Moving Into My Residential Neighborhood?
I live in a small town (abt. 2000 people) in Maine, in a very quiet residential area. My family owns some land, which both my husband and I as well as my parents have homes on. A year or so ago a company put a gravel pit up against our property line. They have blasted a few times, which shakes our house and screws up our well, and move heavy equipment which makes an incredible racket. We can't believe at how the noise has changed the rural neighborhood we've always lived in. Now the company wants to expand the pit to 5 times its current size and start some deep quarrying with lots more blasting. Our town council tells us that our town isn't zoned, so there's really no such thing as a "residential neighborhood". Our property value (the only thing we really have) will come crashing down, and it will be deafening to just stand in our yard. We've worked so hard to start a small farm here - is there anything we can do to protect our neighborhood?

    • ANSWER:
You mentioned a town council, but do you have a Board of County Commissioners? Where I live, that would be where to go. It's rare for any county or state to not have some kind of ordinance or land use restrictions. First check with your county government, then state government if you need to. If you can't find anything there then you may have to resort to getting an attorney to check into it and file legal action if needed.
      Good luck.

  13. QUESTION:
I did some heavy lifting and now I'm bleeding?
I work for a horse farm, and I was moving a piece of equipment with another person. We had to move it a few different times, and it was really heavy, it hurt to lift it. The day after, I woke up sore all over, and I had period-like cramps. It isn't close to that time of the month. I am bleeding a little and I'm a little concerned.

    • ANSWER:
I wouldn't be too worried. You probably have a hernia. Sometimes that happens and you will see the bleeding like you are getting your period. But you should have it checked out, because Hernia's can be serious

  14. QUESTION:
Do you think global warming is a concern of yours and what in your opinion causes it?
Oil consumption is one: outdated diesel trains, high octane burning jetliners, large personal vehicles, heavy land development equipment, energy plants, refineries, and cargo transportation.

Others are: large methane producing beef farms/dairies that do not harvest and prevent enough of the gasses from leaving the farm. Only a few farms deploy this type of containment, are we willing to pay more for dairy and beef to protect our environment so they can invest in such containment systems? I think so.

Did you know the populations of bark beetles have increased from 1.1 million in 2005 to almost 5 million in 2006 in Colorado!? (http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20061208/sc_afp/usenvironmentbeetles ) I hate seeing Big Bear, in my area, suffer because it is not getting cold enough to kill them. Trees are dying; oxygen producing forests are becoming extinct, why? In my opinion it's Global Warming. It's affecting everything and I believe it is all of our concern.

    What’s your opinion?
Did you know global warming hits harder where the air is cold and dry? Where you might see a small temperature increase in a tropical environment; a colder climate will see around triple that.

So everyone's favorite, penguin roaming, polar ice caps will heat up and melt and our beautiful, snowboard riding, white covered mountains will recede and disappear. To all of you snowboarders out there, consider what you are losing if people are not active enough about climate changing factors.

    Check out this clip: http://www.leonardodicaprio.org/whatsimportant/globalwarming_movie01.htm

    • ANSWER:
Global warming caused solely by man is a myth.

What is happening is a constant shifting of climate and weather around the world.

Greenland once supported crops 1000 years ago, but now even grass can't grow there. That's global cooling.

Even barely perceivable changes in the Sun's energy output will have far more impact than all of mankind.

So we will see warmer periods and cooler periods regardless of what we do "to save the planet".

What we need to do is stop worrying about how to "stop global warming", and concentrate on predicting how the continued climate change will affect various regions - both areas that warm up and cool down.

  15. QUESTION:
where can i go to help me find a career?
i know exactly what i want, and i was given a number by the university in the city for apprenticeships but the problem is finding a company to sponsor me! i am a grade 12 student located in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, with every after noon off of school cause of spares, and i am very interested in getting into the Heavy Equipment Operation feild. (i am willing to go to schooling/training after my morning classes) i have done my research, and no contracting company is willing to let anybody, espescially a teen behind the wheel of a several houndred thousand maybe even a one million dollar machiene. i have applied many times to 3 different contracting companies specifying what i am interested in, just never that i am looknig for an apprenticeship. i have never recieved a call back, but i am determined because i actually have a passion for operating and driving. i have worked on a farm, and have operated farm and personal equipment from as big as a front end loader, to a skidsteer. so i do know what i am wanting to get my self into.

another thing is, i am thinknig about applying to a special school i have found, but it is not cheap at all and is not covered by any grants or schollarships through school. it is a ,000 course for 25 days, and if the price of diesel goes above .25/Litre, i am paying the difference out of my pocket.

so please, anybody know of any places i can go to, to help me with my struggle to get started and who i could contact to guide me in the right direction to a company that will be willing to train me? thanks.

    • ANSWER:
You are correct - most companies don't want newly employed teens on huge expensive machines.

My best suggestion is to find any warehouse job that needs a forklift driver (there are warehouses all over). Get licensed and work there for a while, and try to pick up other opportunities for bigger and better machines getting certified as you go.

Before you know it you will be driving those big rigs you love. As long as you have the experience and licensing to back up driving those things, you shouldn't have a problem as long as there are jobs open.

  16. QUESTION:
    difference between ford trannys?
im in the market for a 2003 ford f350 with the 7.3l diesel, im wondering, how beefy are those 3speed autos? and what are the specs, im deciding whether i want a 6spd stick or a 3spd auto, someone told me that the auto were built by international, true or false? biggest question is dependability and durability, i pull large trailers and heavy equipment around town and home on the farm

    • ANSWER:
Ford introduced the 6.0L DIT engine somewhere around March of 2003, so you are obviously referring to an early build 2003 model, if it is equipped with the 7.3L DIT engine. The automatic transmission that backs this particular engine is a 4 speed automatic, not a 3 speed. It is a 4R100 transmission, which is a derative of the E4OD that was introduced in 1988. The E4OD is derived from the old 3 speed C6 transmission. All of the above mentioned transmissions are very beefy units. The 6 speed manual is made by ZF, which is of German origin. This unit is a very tough and durable transmission an extra low 1st gear, which is very good for pulling very heavy loads. The weak links with these transmissions used to be the clutches which were known for premature failures, until they updated the design. If you come across a later build 2003 to 2007, it would be equipped with the above mentioned 6.0L DIT VGT engine and a newer 5 speed automatic with a "tow/haul" mode, that Ford calls the "Torqshift" transmission. Earlier build versions of this transmission were prone to reverse clutch drum snap ring failures. Both the 7.3L and 6.0L DIT engines are manufactured by Navistar for use on Ford's light and medium duty trucks, as well as their own trucks dubbed the D444E and VT365 respectively. The automatic transmissions are manufactured by Ford, and the manual transmissions are made by ZF as previously mentioned. Hope this helps.

  17. QUESTION:
Why are some bales of hay rectangles and others round?
We recently travelled through South Dakota and noticed several differences in the way hay was being baled and wondered what the benefits of each type were. Besides the big round bales and rectangular ones, there were also some farms that had plain haystacks. Would someone educate us, we're city folks - we want to know everything one would need to know about bales of hay but were afraid to ask. Oh, we also wondered what hay is baled with...is it heavy twine or rope...how long it lasts without getting rotten and if the round ones can be rolled if you push them or if you have to use equipment to do so.
I'm really enjoying reading these answers, I appreciate everyone who is offering their expertise and knowledge.

    • ANSWER:
Usually, when hay is grown for market, it is baled in rectangular bales for hauling purposes as is straw. You will see hay trucks (truck and trailer) along the highways loaded with bales of hay. I live in the Pacific Northwest (U.S.A.) and have never seen round bales hauled, have only seen them in the fields where they are grown and fed. In the 50s, my stepfather drove hay trucks from eastern Washington to dairy farms in California; hay was always alfalfa from that area. I now live in western Washington where most hay is grass. I've only seen grass hay in round bales so I'm curious as to if alfalfa is ever "round-baled" or alfalfa grown for commercial purposes in western Washington/Oregon (I've only seen grass hay on this side of the Cascades). Now they also have huge rectangular bales!

Thank you for the question which brought back lots of good memories. I grew up on a farm in eastern Washington; my grandfather grew both grain (oats, barley and wheat which also meant straw) and alfalfa. The rare times I was allowed to follow the hay baler was cool to a young child and fascinating to watch the "flat" hay go in one end and come out a bale on the other end. Watching the thresher was even more "magic," seeing the bundled cut grain stalks go onto the belt and come out grain through one chute and straw out the other.

We have a local walmart and have had for year's competion yes, However not too bad if you will.we take pride in our work as well as our customers. For instance we do all the citites and townships service vechicles, state wildlife trucks/equipment etc..the local patrol cars/ambulances as well as heavy farm equipement/lawn tires simply everything thats round and roll's,we also do all the local automotive dealer's things.. im kind of venting sorry... anyways's for instance I get a phone call "i'd like to get a price on a tire"
a customer looking for a 235/75/15 basic standard midsize truck tire even some older model care use that size. I find out the style tread they're looking for mileage etc etc...ok off the top tires are government priced as far as import/export specialty high mileage etc etc TAX tarriffs crude oil
state tire fee several times dealer to dealer dealer to customer etc..So I price a Cooper trendsetter se 50,000 mile Premium american ade american owned grandad ran em on his caddillac for years Cooper one of the first tire and rubber manufactures ..at 6.00 per tire
that includes Labor, mount, balance new valve stem(premium parts) installed on and off the car...Wheels cleaned and sealed properly car treated with respect inside and out...one solid price...
also free service for the life of the tire Rotate every 5,000 miles Proper repairs as well as re balance anytime free service no hassle no gimmick.... walmart has a 40,000 mile junk chinese douglas... for 85 but then u gotta pay this n that its a gimmick what im getting at is dont go to walmart to get tires

    • ANSWER:
well... i didnt bother reading all that other than the first couple of lines, and i agree with what i seen, wal-mart + vehicle serive = oh shit hell no. i much rather trust a used car tire service than wal mart or any other chain stores like it. they know absolute nothing about cars, you may find 1 out of 50 who knows, but its rare.

i even tease them when it comes to cars, "will my honda hook up pretty good with these tires?" yeah man i got them on my civic and no matter what rpm i leave i can hook, keep in mind these tires are all seasoned.. they know rice pretty well but cars, nope. nada thing.

I need a small but professional quality sound recorder; do you have a suggestion?
I wish to record interviews on farms, building sites and other such locations, and then broadcast them on the radio. Can someone with professional experience in this field, suggest recording equipment, please? It needs to be small but not pocket size, and capable of recording to CD standard. I have tried a laptop with appropriate software but it is too big and heavy to carry around all day.

    • ANSWER:
I would suggest Zoom H2 Handy Recorder. It not record in to CD but it record to 4GB Card

  20. QUESTION:
How do I resolve my drive being vandalized by my neighbor next door?
So basically we have a 1/5 drive way up to my house, and about quarter way up it is the access road for my neighbours house. A few years ago he complained to my land lord saying myself and my family were going down the road too fast and the owner came up to my place and showed me a book that my neighbour had been monitoring our speeds and when I looked at the book it was stuff like date, time, registration and speed and some of these speeds were like 60mph, 70mph and up to 102mph and just silly figures. Not only was I not doing the speeds none of the cars or machines in my fleet were capable of doing most of the speeds recorded.

I asked my land lords agent 'how does he know how fast I was going?' To which me replied 'oh he had borrowed a speed gun off the police and that's how he got your speeds' I was amazed and explained to him in a rather frustratingly how the police do not just hand out speed guns to people and the public to go spy on there next door neighbour.

He had also said to the land lord whom had agreed this was what was to be done that speed bumps were to be put all down the road even on my half of it past his house, and I was to be pay for all of the work done to the road. Of course I was angry with this idea and being made to sound like a mug and a criminal to which I said if it was to be done not only would I not pay but I would bulldoze them all out with my tractor. After which I saw them off and nothing has been said about it since...

I thought the whole idea had been forgotten about...how wrong was I! Over the insuing years he was going up and down with his heavy machinery ripping up his half of the road (To which my family had consented to his family using it when the house was being built) and within 5 years it was to the extent that you had to go slow or risk your car getting its bottom ripped out, however I put up with it.

Then this week past the neighbour dug up trenches on the road and left them open which is really screwing over my car. On talking to my Land Lord he said, 'They are being done to divert water (to a nearby field) from coming down off your part of the road and stop YOU from vandalising your neighbours part of the road' However there is not run off from my part of the road AND I maintain and keep up my part of the road which is perfect! Even though on the last rent review myself and my land lord agreed it should be my neighbour who fixes his part of the road and he agreed that I keep my road in good order!

I feel so powerless now and frustrated how he is always out to spite me and ive even caught him sabotaging my farm equipment when ive never touched any of his.

All thoughts and advice appreciated :)
Yeah ive discussed it time and time again we agree something and it never goes through...to be honest im not very much in favour with them because I do not agree to 200% (yes 200% not 20%) rent increases!

Moving would not be a option because I would not be able to start business elsewhere. Its a sad state of affairs.

    • ANSWER:
Honestly i reckon you should go up to him and pretend to be schizophrenic or something so you scare him shitless because he thinks theres something wrong with you.

      No not really.

My next door neighbours dog used to sneak under a bit of fence into our garden beause next door didnt have any grass and we did, and take dumps on it. I went next door and explained to them if they did not stop their dog i would take a shit on their doorstep everyday.

      The dog stopped coming over.

    • ANSWER:
Pare it down - it's rather long and a prospective employer won't want to wade through extraneous information.

Check the spelling and capitalization. If the accepted term is "HGV" use that every time, rather than a mixture of Hgv and HGV. It is enough to state that you have an HGV license, you don't need to give dates, especially when the license expired and was renewed. Ditto with ADR.

Look at each instance where you have capitalized the words and make sure it is correct to do that - eg, Radioactive and Explosives do not need to be capitalized; they are common nouns, not proper nouns. Ditto with Dangerous and Hazardous. Ditto with Heavy, and Pits.

No need to give dates for O levels, it's enough to state that you have O levels in English Language and Mathematics. No need for the apostrophe after the "O".

Consider listing your educational qualifications under one heading and your work experience under another.

List your experience without the details - eg "consequently I've used a variety of gear boxes and automatic transmission" because in that particular case your experience with different gear boxes and automatic transmissions is inferred by your listing the many different kinds of vehicle you have driven. Delete "I have experience" preceding each example.

      Delete the last paragraph.

Generally, keep things simple and clear. The details can be dealt with at the interview stage.

I wish you good luck with your search for work, and applaud you for trying so diligently. I hope your search ends soon with a job offer that is to your liking.

  22. QUESTION:
Oil in chevrolet Z71 should i use a heavier weight oil?
I am in the farming/lawncare buisness as well as a paid firefighter.I pull alot of somewhat large trailors with equipment on them .Some of the guys around the station couldnt beleive i still used 10w30 Valvoline.Do i need to use a heavier weight oil.Open to any suggestions. The truck is an 06 chevrolet crew cabZ71.Any suggestions are appreciated...

    • ANSWER:
NO, your friends are living in the 70's and early 80's when sloppily build engines needed heavier weight oil. Quality control, engineering and tolerances are much tighter now, heavier oil will not flow and lubricate critical parts as well as as the proper weight oil, in your case 10W-30. If you do lots of pulling I would upgrade to a synthetic, as it has much higher temperature operating range, higher flash point than conventional mineral oil. Stick with the same weight grade though.

  23. QUESTION:
Miller big blue air pak vs Lincoln air vantage 500?
I'm looking at Lincoln air vantage 500 or miller Big blue air pak. Miller is cheaper, 64 horse power unlike Lincoln with 58. Miller has higher duty cycles at higher amps. Miller is known for mainly mig tig and static (not engine driven) machines. This is what is puzzling me on making this choice. I need this welding for flux cores, tig and plasma cutting plus common other uses ex grinder, lights etc. would be doing pipeline farm and heavy duty welding. Any advice stories any thing is helpful thanks for the time.

    • ANSWER:
I don't think either of those machines is quite what you want. They are designed for arc gouging, the air supply isn't good enough for a plasma. Not to mention those machines are around 20 grand. As far as the machines go, Lincoln got its name from the old SA-200 from years ago. Now days it is a 1a and 1b choice between them.

  24. QUESTION:
can you give me some info based on my description,if you need pics please let me know?
I bought this what looks like to me a pulley(maybe a barn pulley) .50 or so.Definitely late 1800's The pics. aren't the greatest so Becky figured, since you guys know about farming and maybe some Equipment too.

Description: Its heavy cast(approximately 5 Lbs.), the middle almost looks like a spigot outside water handle.it is connected to the inside of the pulley. The part you cant see very good is the very top were it must have hooked to maybe a hook that went maybe over a piece of wood up high in maybe a barn, Its got a bolt attached to the top pointing outward 1 3/8" long , a very thin round metal washer 1 1/4" across,a second smaller but thicker washer 1" across & another 1" washer attached to a square looks to be 5/8 square nut. All connected to a horshoe shapped 6 3/8" long on both sides, which is 4 1/2" at it widest point And 3 3/4" at its narrowest point wide.(The very top of this horse shoe shaped hanger is a bit wider top to bottom just a small almost rectangular shaped, its actually 1 3/4" wide x 1 1/2" from top to bottom.)The backside of that piece has 2 indentations were my index finger lays in each side almost at a slight angle. Also on the backside has stamped into the cast C 15( the horshoe part). From the bolt down to the top of the wheel is 1 1/2" It meets there.A front view Between the top part of the horse shoe is 2 pieces of cast 1 1/2 " long were it meetssemii flat cast, with a gap open enough to slide my tape measure(tape) in.

on the reverse side were the C 15 is same length only difference is(the same semi flat cast) at 1" it curves downward 1/2" to almost a point on both pieces of cast.

there is then a gap 1/4" between the 2 pieces of cast and the wheel, looks likesomethingg flat maybe 3" wide x 1/4" or less went between, maybe like a flat rope ?

all that attaching to a 4" long x 7/8" round cast like dowel were the wheel turns.

On one side of the inside of the wheel are 2 more stamped One says C 20 the other is the Patent#

    Pat.6.28:87

The wheel it self is 6 1/4" across x 3" wide.

I think that about explains it to the T.

basic ground work for my 4year old?
I have a 4 year old draft who i got when he was 2 and a half and was already broke :( .
And from what he knows about riding he must have just had a saddle thrown on and ridden out on the roads a few times n that's it lol. He is good on the roads because he has a laid back attitude to things like most drafts do.
So my problem is....he is not very well schooled(if at all??). he is heavy on his front feet and doesn't know all voice and leg/hand signals. he knows the basics like Go,Stop,Turn,Trot. but that's about it.
So when spring comes i am going to attempt to do some basic ground work with him to try and make him a bit more responsive and lighter on his feet.

So can you give me any advice on what to start him with?
it will have to be simple at first as he is not the brightest of horses and he is clumsy with his feet lol

i will be doing it in an overgrown sand paddock which i am planning on cutting all the grass in there so it is half decent (the yard i am on has been closed for 8 years due to the owners husband passing away)
Please bare in mind that i am a novice and DON'T have a trainer because not many people do in the UK apart from people on expensive yards lol and i am on a small farm and dont have any fancy equipment lol

and also he wont lunge. i have tried and tried with him and he just tries to run away from the lunge whip evan when its not near him and i have tried it without the whip and he just doesn't have a clue what to do so that is out of the question lol :(

    no nasty comments
    Thanks :)

You can do the Parelli Seven Games with him.....that will really help. They are just a bunch of little "games" that you do on the ground that will help you bond and will be good training for him. Here is a website that explains how to do them........http://iceryder.net/7games.html Here's another website that might help you (it has a bunch of questions and answers for training horses) http://www.naturalhorsetraining.com/TrainingTips.html and here is another website that will help you too..... http://www.horsechannel.com/ you can even ask horse questions on the forum page..... http://board.horsechannel.com/ there are a lot of people on their that can help you if you have any other questions. I am on the forum/message board to on that website....my user name is Rockon. If you want to you can make a profile thing on their(like a username and a password) and then find one of my questions and then click on "PM Rockon" and that means you can private message me if you have any other training questions.

You really, really need to get him to longe!!!!! It will help him A LOT!!!!! When you start longeing him DO NOT longe him in a big circle. You need to start him on a very small circle....circle around you. And do not ask him to trot or canter at first.....just get him walking in a small circle around and then release the longe line and let the circle get a little bigger. It will take a long time.....you may want to try longeing him without a longe whip at first. Also try to turn him out in a pasture as much as possible....that is really good for young horses because they usually have a lot of energy.

Social Essay.. would you mind proofreading??? Please it would be very appreciated.. check grammer?
    Five Year Plans
Somewhere around the late 1920’s Stalin decided it was time for Russia to modernize. As he said, “Other countries are fifty years ahead of Russia. We must make this up in ten years. Either we do this or they will crush us”. Stalin’s advisors confirmed his worries in saying that the Soviet Union would need an extra 250 000 tractors in order for this modernization to become possible. They would also need to develop the oil fields to provide the necessary petrol for the tractors to be driven and the farms needed electricity, so power stations would have to be built. Stalin organized a series of five year plans that would eventually (considering the goals of these plans were met) turn Russia into a much more industrialized country than ever before. There were five main five year plans, but thirteen in total. However, the thirteenth was never put into action because Stalin passed away.
The first five year plan (“revolution from above”) was introduced in 1928, and achieved in 1932. The purpose was to increase the production of iron and steel, machine tools, electric power and transportation. To do this the country would need large amounts of money and industrial equipment, Russia had neither. “The only way to obtain the money and industrial equipment necessary for this plan to take place was to increase the amount of grain and minerals exported.” (Arnold, Phyllis A and David J. Rees. Russia, Then and Now. Scarborough: Arnold Publishing Ltd, 1993.) At this time grain prices were very low.
In early 1929, Stalin ordered that all private farms belonging to the peasants be taken and made into collective farms. This was known as collectivization. Stalin believed that it would be more efficient to have more people working on bigger farms than fewer people working on smaller farms. His theory was correct, but the peasants were not as cooperative as he had hoped. The peasants refused to give up their crops or their farm animals to the state, they choose to burn their crops and kill their farm animals instead. The government had to apply force to get them to join the collectives, those who resisted were executed, beaten or sent to labour camps in Siberia.
The first five year plan was achieved in four years rather than five. Over fifteen hundred new factories and cities were built, leading to a huge expansion of energy production (because the new factories and cities needed electricity). Roads were constructed, as were railways and canals. Dams were created and other major projects also led to the improvement of Russia. Manufacturing increased greatly, making it possible for preparations to be made for future wars.
The first five year plan was successful in terms of increasing production, but considering the social aspects, it was not. “The large emphasis on heavy industry meant that consumer goods were in high demand. Shops were empty, clothing was in short supply and many household items were unavailable. More people were moving into the city resulting in there being insufficient medical facilities and schools. Housing became harder to find.” (http://www.library.thinkquest.org/C0112205/stalinrussia.html)
The harder the peasants worked the more Stalin expected. Workers were expected to work harder and longer, more often. The workers did not revolt though, they were paid in food rations. Which meant they would definitely not eat if they did not work. By 1937, over fourteen million Soviet peasants had died due to the events of the first five year plan and the livestock took until 1953 to regains its 1928 level.
The Second five year plan was from 1933 to 1937. It continued the goals of the first plan. The goals became slightly more realistic though and easier to achieve than those of the first plan. The third plan started in 1938 but was interrupted in 1941 by the German invasion of the Soviet Union. All means of production were now controlled by the government, and the standard of living continued to decrease. When World War II ended in 1945, Stalin began the Fourth Five Year Plan. Many towns and villages had been destroyed during the war. So, the main goal of this plan was to rebuild them. The expansion of heavy industry and military productions was also continued. This plan was accomplished in 1950. The fifth plan started in 1951 and ended in 1955. “It continued the development of heavy industries such as aircraft production, chemicals, and oil production.” (Arnold, Phyllis A and David J. Rees. Russia, Then and Now. Scarborough: Arnold Publishing Ltd. 1993.)
These five year plans may not have been easy or fun for the Soviet Union but they did help the country industrialize. By 1955, the Soviet Union had become the world’s second largest industrial producer. The country’s share of world industrial production went from 2.6% in 1917, to over 16% in 1955. The industrial production expanded in Eastern Ukraine, the Urals and Central Russia. The Soviet Union had also established a centrally planned economy and the standard of living was slowly starting to rise. (Arnold, Phyllis A and David J. Rees. Russia, Then and Now. Scarborough: Arnold Publishing Ltd, 1993.)

I'm not sure what grade you're in but I must say your writing is very good. I'd only suggest that you add your opinions as to the relative success or failure of each of the five year plans as well as your own opinion of the wisdom of Stalin's program. Your summary of the Soviet Union's progress to 1955 seems to end a little abruptly. Overall, a good effort. If I were your teacher, depending on what grade you're in, I'd give it a 'B'. What grade are you?.

  28. QUESTION:
    Land Law trouble.......?
Hi, Could anybody help me with this UK Land Law Scenario, i am having real trouble....

If someone could just push me in the right direction- what do i need to be covering??

Any advice or suggestions thank you 10 points best answer...

Mr Hay and Mr Corn are two neighbours who live in the rural village of Barley Field. Both are experiencing problems in respect of their land and decide to visit Mr Law the village solicitor. They seek advice on the following issues:

In March 2008 Mr Hay purchased Bramble Farm from Major Thorn. The farm was a registered freehold property when it was transferred to Mr Hay, and Mr Hay was entered as the registered proprietor with absolute title. Subsequently, the following maters have come to light:

(1)Rose, Major Thorn’s partner, has arrived at the property. She was visiting her daughter in New Orleans at the time of the sale, and knew nothing about it. She has documentary evidence that she contributed half the purchase price when Major Thorn acquired Bramble Farm, though she was never entered on the register as a proprietor.

(2)Mr Wood has produced a properly executed deed, dated 2005, whereby Major Thorn granted him a six-year lease of a cottage on the farm. Mr Wood has never actually lived in the cottage. The lease gave him the option to buy the freehold of the cottage should Major Thorn ever decide to sell.

(3)Mr Hay encounters another neighbour, Mr Plant ambling across the overgrown field to the rear of the outbuildings. When he confronts Mr Plant, he is informed that both Mr Plant and his predecessors have been using the field for many years as a short cut to the local pub and intend to continue with or without his permission. Mr Hay is furious as he has earmarked this part of the land to build a granny annexe for his ageing mother.

(4)On moving into the property, Mr Hay is furious to find that an ornamental bronze statue of an African elephant and its plinth have been removed from the garden. He is amazed that Major Thorn has managed to remove it as it was extremely heavy. A local villager informed him that Major Thorn had installed the elephant and other memorabilia in the garden in the late 1970’s when he returned from his travels to Africa. The elephant had caused quite a stir in the village because the Major had had to hire special lifting equipment to manoeuvre it.

You are Mr Law, the solicitor and it is your role to advise Mr Hay as to the factors that will determine which (if any) of the above matters will be binding upon him, and whether or not he can retrieve the elephant.

    • ANSWER:
This is about overriding and minor interests in land formerly governed by the LPA 1925 but now covered by the 2002 Act.The obvious issue is which if any potential interest in the land can defeat a bone fide purchaser for value without notice of it.You could work through the table in the following link.http://www.kevinboone.com/lra.html

I am a bit rusty on the details but my thoughts for what they're worth are as follows ( can't guaranteee 100% technically correct but hope it will point you in the right direction)

      (1) The property was 'transferred' to Mr.Hay.Can you assume that Hay was in fact a bona fide purchaser for value without notice.

      (2) Rose made a contribution to the purchase price and prima facie had some interest in the land ( unless of course the contribution was an absolute gift.) It seems obvious that her name did not appear as proprietor on the title so that leaves her with an interest as either
      (i) contributor - equitable interest ? If so what sort and was ut registerable and registered ?
(ii) partner of prior owner - was the property a Matrimonial home and her interest registerable as a Class F charge.EVen if it was did she register one ?
(iii) occupier (and if this is any sort of interest in the property did Hay have notice of it if she was in New Orleans ?

      (3) Mr Wood's lease dated 2005 should be covered by the 2002 Act.It would have been an overriding interest had it been for 7 years or more but as it was not. Provided Mr.Hay had no notice of it , it is not binding on him.Mr Wood never actually lived in the cottage. It is therefore reasonable to assume that Mr.Hay could not have known Mr.Wood was in any way associated with it.However Mr.Wood may have sublet and had Mr.Wood visited the premises ( or asked the relevant question as a pre-contract enquiry) he might have been put on notice that the vendor was not in actual occupation. The option to purchase the freehold is an estate contract and is only binding if registered as a Class C charge.

      (4) Mr.Plant is claiming an easement based on habitual use ( adverse possession ?).You need to decide if this adverse use can constitue either legal or an equitable easement and what consequences flow particulalry if it is not registered as either.

      (5) This is a possibly more straightforward issue about whether the statue was personal removable property or a fixture so permanently annexed to the land that title to it passes on the transfer.Think about its weight and the amount of installation effort required both going in and coming out

Who will join hands in our fight to save the nature from poison of GM plants?
We at Save Farmer Movement are appealing each and every one to help in the great cause of documentation of deadly effects GM plants like BT cotton.
Who is going to sponsor the research on how to save human race now?

We am studying ill effects of Genetically Modified (GM) Plants on Humans, Animals and Environment. We have discovered GM plants are killing animals on large scale. But not government agency is willing to accept or even notice it.

Now from here with out any govt /private /charity support how would we do this.

If we do it with other work for my subsistence then I do not get time for the research.

How many of you would guide/help me?

What would you have done if you were in my place?

Would you have left an important research on which the future of human race depended?

May I request you all to donate at least 1 Dollar from you pocket to support my research.
or If You may not want to donate you can help in many other ways like

    1. Demand non GM food from where ever you going market/friends' home
    2. Forward this information in true faith to friends
    3. Do not buy shares of companies dealing directly or indirectly with GM plants/foods
    4. Do not do business/job with such companies
    5. Donate anything else other than money which you can think will be helpful in reseach/survey/documentation like equipments/computers/camera/research equements, etc.

    'BT Cotton is killing animals'

    Devendra Uppal

    Hindustan Times 12 June 2010

HISAR: Dr Sudhir Kumar Kaura, a geneticist and biotechnologist, said here on Friday “BT Cotton may be a good source of income for resourceful farmers
who can bear the heavy cost of BT cotton seeds and associated farm care but it is also found to contain Hydrogen Cyanide, a deadly poison, by scientific investigation.”

Dr Kaura said this was the situation allegedly created by BT Cotton in villages in North India. He said that animals were dying or coming under the toxic grip of BT Cotton allergy and possibly poisoning.

He said, “Evidence of presence of Hydrogen Cranide (HCN) have come from government laboratories in the state of Andhra Pradesh State (India), where thousands of sheep perished after feeding on BT Cotton some years back.”

Dr Kaura said that buffaloes perish over many months compare to sheep. “Ill effects of BT Cotton include difficulty in conceiving properly, giving birth to significantly smaller sized offsprings, protrusion of uterus, allergy symptoms on skin, reduction in milk (10% in one week in some cases), dysfunction of teats, and others,” he said.

“The taste of the milk from buffaloes who are fed BT Cotton, has changed. So, many people have stopped taking milk or milk products.”

Dr Kaura said he was worried ‘about people, especially children who work at BT Cotton farms, as many are experiencing allergy symptoms such as boils, itching, redness, white patches, and others.

He warned that if the government did not stop BT Cotton from being fed to animals, the small and marginal farmer economy which is basically driven by milk, would soon be shattered.
    Dear Harmony19,

please note that bt cotton has been found to kill animals by government in india and govt lab. in India has found prensence of hydrogen cyanide. I think you are just opposing GM food for the sake of opposing. There is no evidence hat GM food are so harmful. So many of the normal fruits and vegetables from time to time becomes very harmful due to the excessive use of pesticides. One good example is grapes. Try eating grapes made in developing countries without washing twice, you may land in problems one in ten times. Chemical use is every where. As for Cyanides it is found in apple seeds etc. In that dose it does not cause any harm at all. Please do not start a movement and stop progress.

round the world trip budget/ spending money advice pls.?
My husband and i are in the process of saving up for a round the world backpacking trip (hopefully to start next March).
we plan to visit Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, (about 4 months in total) then Australia for 6 months, 1 month in New Zealand the a couple of weeks in Fiji then 2 weeks in North America.
Discounting flights, visas and equipment, how much do you think we ought to budget for spending money for the year - to include travel (busses etc), the odd trip, accommodation, food ie general living costs? we are not heavy drinkers or clubbers, and we dont mind staying in basic accomodation. we are also looking to work in Australia for about 4 -5 months and also doing a bit of WWOOFing (working on organinc farms for board and lodge)
can anyone give me a rough idea of how much money we should take between us for 12 months? in UK pounds sterling if poss
also do you have any idea how much vaccinations will cost us (each)? i dont think many, if any, are given free on the NHS
dont be silly! of course you can travel to Laos and Cambodia and it is vary safe to do so! many gap year travellers go to these countries. Its mayanmar (Burma) you have to be careful with

    • ANSWER:
I always budget for £1,000 a month as my benchmark when I go travelling. I then have a credit card as back up - Nationwide is the only one that doesn't charge fees when you're abroad. This page may help you: http://www.thetravellerslounge.co.uk/currencycosts.htm - in fact The Travellers Lounge has info on everything you need by the looks of things and you can check hostel/hotel prices online too.

Regarding jabs - i've just been to China and I got all my boosters free on the NHS. Yellow Fever is definitely extra but i'm pretty sure you don't need that for where you are going

Sounds like a good trip - enjoy!

  36. QUESTION:
Video. High-Level EMP (Electromagnetic Pulse) Attenuation System Can Save America.?
Check my video out. If anyone still wants to help (look for my other posts on the same topic. Type in EMP Attenuation in answers.yahoo's search) please contact me.

    Here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nmABQAOD6nc

Earlier in 2009 there was a video that talked about the effects of a high-level electromagnetic pulse on the U.S. population. I have a new invention that I would like to inform the population about.

My invention is in the category of a high-level EMP - Electromagnetic Pulse – attenuation system that was built to stop the effects of a high-level EMP from reaching electronic equipment. It is in no way related to a Faraday Cage except the fact that it is meant to stop an EMP. The electronics stored inside a Faraday Cage cannot be used unless a generator is running inside the cage. My system allows wires to run into the cage so that the components inside will run continuously during an EMP. To date, no wires can run into a Faraday Cage due to their conductivity. Even wire shielding cannot protect the components because the high voltages induced will spark through the thin shielding. Layering plastic will only make transmission lines heavier. With my system, enterprise stations can continue running without having to shutdown before an EMP. Without my system, major electronic systems will either be destroyed or shutdown temporarily to avoid possible damage.

If the stock market had to shutdown for a few hours the points would fall quickly. My invention has been tested to 50,000 volts and still climbing. I believe my invention is something that will attract the interest of major power stations, server farms, and high-power building due to the possibility of an EMP attack at any time over the U.S. Why else would countries allow the U.S. to continue spending despite its debt?

One example of an application is with Bloom Energy. With my product working with Bloom, we will not only deliver cost effective energy, but we will also protect major corporations from dangerous over voltages. eBay and Google are prime examples.

I have lots of pictures and videos of the system that I wouldn’t mind showing.

This will show the population and major corporations that their electronic equipment can be fully protected. It will also become a top priority in the development of the United States level of redundancy.

What should motivate us is this video:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHlao4gtp_8

If you pay attention to the end of the video, most people would agree that we would do exactly what was stated. The government has been talking about this for many years. They have been looking for a way to completely protect from an EMP. I have the solution and I want to inform the population about it as soon as possible.

    • ANSWER:
What is your theory behind your invention?
From your video,I did not see any counter emf effect demonstration.
I saw a circuit board contains only some diodes that you never able to get more than 120 volts DC. And I saw a coil creates spark about 10Kv between an radio cirucit board capacitor ground.
What you try to explain in this video ?
Are you making a joke to fool someone?

Hobby Farm Tractor

Tractor Safety For The Hobby Farmer
Tractors come in all different sizes and types and the one you get for your hobby farm will depend on what you need to do with it and the type of ground you have. Your tractor might just seem like an oversized ride-on lawnmower, but it deserves much more respect in regards to safety rules, because it is a piece of moving machinery capable of dealing a death-blow to the unwary or foolish user.

If your hobby farm has any steep areas on it, be very careful when driving or working your tractor there. Once you know exactly what it can handle you will have more confidence, but at first, take more care. Tractors can roll quite easily sometimes, and will crush anyone caught underneath.

When operating a tractor near an embankment, do not get too close to the edge, even if it seems safe. Tractors weigh quite a bit and can easily cause the bank to give way and the tractor to roll. And what was safe in dry weather may not be as safe after rain.

On steep country it is also possible for the tractor to go into a slide, especially if the ground is damp or stony, or if the grass is wet and long. If you are towing an implement such as a plough, lower it into the ground to drive down a steep hill. Weights can sometimes be added to the front of the tractor to provide more traction and counteract the back weight for going up steep hills.

When driving over ground where the grass is very long, take care that you don't drive into a hidden hole or onto a log. Doing so can not only jar the steering wheel out of your grasp but tip the tractor over. Where ground has been cleared, the sharp remnants of stumps can stick out of the ground by just a few centimetres. Running over them can put a hole in your tyre a much more expensive disaster than a flat car tyre. But with care and caution you will get great deal of work and pleasure out of your new workhorse.

I new to filing taxes for a farm and how much can you save using farm tax and what forms do I need and what do I need to look for? I also bought a tractor and a truck can use those for farm tax write off? Any tips will be helpful. thanks

    • ANSWER:
considering how much money it takes to fix up and run an old farm, fences, barns, waters, vet bills, which is never ending, it's amazing that there is any money left over.

Anyway: Contact your Farm Service Agency in your county or (gasp) the IRS, the IRS has a form specific to farming. This form will walk you through what you can and can not use as deductions.

  2. QUESTION:
    John Deere 3203 Tractor?
Is a John Deere #3203 tractor (32 hp) capable of lifting and stacking 1,200 lb. bales of hay? The loader on this is a 300. Is this a good tractor for a small (20 acre) hobby farm where it's main useage would be stacking round bales of hay and snow removal?

    • ANSWER:
i thought i answered this question but i see nothing here now. apologies if it results in double posting.

  4. QUESTION:
What do I do now? advice needed!?
Long story shortened: I'm 34, married to a selfish lazy person, have a hobby farm and 6 kids. My husband doesn't cheat, beat me, or call me names. He also doesn't DO anything other than go to work. There's no help with the kids, farm, car repairs, tractor repairs, building, lawn, housework, bill paying, nothing. He works.
Last Saturday, I was thrown off a horse I was training which earned me a broken T7,T9,T10,L2,L3, and a rib as well as a severe concussion. I'm supposed to be on bed rest. Not only will my 3 older kids NOT help, my husband says I'm asking too much from him when I need him to clean up, change a diaper, or wash dishes. He left the other day over night because I was upset that he wouldn't fix the starter on my van. He made ME do it! I had no choice. I need a vehicle.
Now he says that this weeks check is the last I'm getting (we have direct deposit) and he'll see me in court (expletive) for support. He's a truck driver so he jumped in his "apartment on wheels" and left me to fend for myself.
Wtf do I even do now? I don't love him. How can I? I never ask for more from someone than I'm willing to (or already have) give(en). I can't get a job! Not unless I want to end up in a wheelchair.
I feel so hopeless, I don't know if I'm posting this to vent and get it off my chest or if I believe anyone out there has actual advice.
Well, any advice on what to do next is appreciated. I'm just so lost.
FYI- the "troll caller" obviously has no medical (or pain experience" because it truly isn't as painful as you might think. Also, I would NOT be sitting at a computer. I have a laptop and I'm using my blackberry right now. Pi$$ off fruit flake. I've had a bad enough day!
I'm just worried about paying things until support goes through. Him being an owner operator, they cannot make him pay support. Only with hold his taxes.
I definitely see divorce. I just have no clue how to pay things. Training horses is what I used to do lol. No can do for a few months now. Oh, the irony

    • ANSWER:
honey i feel so sorry for you that you would be going though all of this i would just leave him and get a divorce and get child support for the kids. wow the nerve of that a@@ hole!!! i would not put up with that.

  5. QUESTION:
    Nickname for a boyfriend.?
OK. i would like to come up with a cute but fitting nick name for my boyfriend. We haven't been together long but we are going slow. He nick named me baby doll because he said that he can pick me up like a little doll and my face is more beautiful than any painted baby doll face.

so here is a little about him.

He is a country boy from the inside out. he ALWAYS opens the door for me. (unless i beat him too it) he is a very affectionate person but not really one for PDA. He is an engineer for a factory that makes chemicals. he hobby farms. (soybeans) but has always loved dairy farming. so on the typical day he is wearing factory clothes or his Key bib overalls. (ordered in bulk from Texas lol) but when we go out he always cleans up real nice and wears "city clothes". Mostly Hollister, Abercrombie and American Eagle. He loves antique tractors. his tractor of choice is a Minneapolis Moline. he likes a lot of older television like Dean Martin, Red Skelton, Pat Boone,& Hee Haw. He has a very old fashioned way about him. i would almost say that he and i courted rather than dated.

So i would kinda like to have a nickname that shows the sort of chivalry, respect, and caring that was once required of all men who wished to be with a lady. he shows me this EVERYDAY! even if we don't see one another that day, he acts everyday like the happiest moment in his life was meeting me. his greatest accomplishment was getting me to be his girl. and i am the most important thing in his life.

    He is amazing.

    • ANSWER:

  6. QUESTION:
Where can I find miniature/toy/antique tractors that run on gasoline, lighter fluid or something of the like?
My dad is trying to start a new hobby (yay!) and saw these types of tractors about 30 years ago! Now that he has quit farming, he'd like to play with these tractors. I guess there used to be actual tractor pulls with these types of tractors - the tractors would even pull a weight eliminator!

Can anyone point me in the direction where I can find these for him? He said they almost sound like real tractors. They are supposed to be small (like the size of a 'normal' kids tractor). Please help!

I live near a state route with tractor trailers all day and night, jake brakes, and the highway dept is across the road, so I hear back up alarms, and dump trucks and diesel reving all day too.
I love our home, we have a mini farm, so I can't just get up and move out anytime soon. My husband doesn't mind it. What can I do, It irritates me so much my back and shoulders and neck hurt from the tension. I am a happy as can be person outside of my home, but when home I am a jerk because of the noise.
I used to wear earplugs for sleeping, but I can sleep without them now because of white noise machine, and Airconditioner or fan too, I still feel vibration of the big trucks so I still get angry and need drugs for it, but I don't know what to ask for.

    • ANSWER:
Try earplugs as a temporary measure, but I would consider moving. Maybe hypnosis or meditation (someplace quiet)? Good luck.

Heavy Equipment Trader

Great Reasons Why You Should Invest In A Heavy Equipment Business If you plan to start a heavy equipment business, you have a good prospect to earn huge profits. Even in tough times, the need for heavy equipment for the construction industry can never be downsized. There is always a demand for new equipment for new construction projects. To run a heavy equipment business, you need to have a sound capital to invest. But, the returns on these investments would be manifolds.

One of the areas of good investment is buying used equipment from the local market. This would reduce transportation costs. To receive finances or bank loans would play an important role in this heavy equipment trading business. Generally, trading companies would look for lower interest rates, so that they get a good margin of profits. The cost of equipment has also reduced with the growing competition. And with the boom in the construction industry, the growth prospects are good. There are even some regions, which require only to upgrade existing projects and not necessary to develop new projects, as per the specific demand patterns with US and Western European markets.

In the above situations, you may lease out equipment or rent them to construction companies that may require equipment to upgrade or develop structures or projects. There is bound to be a great demand for leased or rented equipment from the construction companies or businesses. Rather than buying the equipment, these companies may opt for rentals of heavy equipment for the up gradation or construction works. The cost of leasing is preferable rather than buying and then selling them at a lower price with not much profit. Moreover, construction companies prefer to bill the rentals for heavy equipments, as maintenance and other overheads charges in their business accounts. It is better to invest in this heavy equipment business, which surely has better opportunities for huge returns.

The demand for heavy equipment has grown and seen all over the world. There are infrastructure projects to be undertaken everywhere. Developing countries of the Middle East and growing economies like India, China and other oriental countries are experiencing a major boom in the construction arena. Infrastructure projects like roads and bridges are undertaken and many countries have seen a sea change with huge malls and fancy complexes mushrooming everywhere. Huge towers, shopping complexes, expressways, highways and flyovers have led to an increase in sales and purchases or rentals of heavy equipments.

Government ventures and strategic partnerships among different businesses have seen a growth and increasing demand for heavy equipments. The heavy equipment sales pricing is also an important factor for the construction companies. There are various factors, which affect the sales and prices of these heavy equipments. Pricing of heavy equipment will be greatly determined by their demand in the market, availability in that region, prices of raw material like iron and steel etc.

If yours is a small startup enterprise, you may find it preferable to start trading heavy equipment with lesser investment. You may invest in used equipment, as many times, they can be bought at highly discounted prices, when compared to company's showroom prices.

You can procure finance or loans from banks with low interest rates. Research the prices and features of the heavy equipments, with wise purchases. To get rid of the loan early can make a difference in your bottom line of your profits.

With proper planning and starting your business trading in heavy equipment to rent or lease, buying or selling and investing wisely, can fetch you good profits.

  3. QUESTION:
am so confused as to what to do?
I am a sole trader 2 years in the Catering area,I have a small business so mostly I can do myself. My hubby drives the van and helps with carrying heavy goods. He is on invalidity pension, due to poor health. I had his initials put on the name of business. The reason I did this is that I am a blow in to the area and the community and surrounding people know him.
Last week my hubby got stopped by a check point and the benefit crowd were there asking questions. They wanted to know was he on benefit and why his initial was on the name also.My hubby said its only a name.My accountant had stated before that provided he doesn't take a salary that it is fine to help.I don't even drew a salary yet as I constantly have to invest in more equipment.I have been totally above board, even to the point that I contacted the household subsidy and had to, in the 2 years send in yearly statement.I am worried that they will try to take his pension.Any advise would be great

  4. QUESTION:
What's the Pakistani / Indian border country really like?
I'm not talking about Kashmir here, which just has to be all kinds of nervous these days, but about the rest of the border.

Is it fixed or fluid? Patrolled or heavily garrisoned? Are there "Checkpoint Charlies" like in Cold War Berlin or do traders schlep across the border anywhere they want leading donkey teams on centuries old uncharted paths? What about all that countryside all along the border between the two countries? Are there, like, WWI trenches in strategic places? Sandbags surrounding mortar and sniper and machine gun emplacements all over the place? Heavy artillery a few miles back all along the border? Minefields? Observation towers with spotlights illuminating razor wire all night? What? Is it more like North / South Korea or more like the US / Mexico border?

This kind of info has eluded me both in News Search and Wikipedia. Forget the CIA World Fact Book. Nada! I wasted a couple of friggin' days on this red herring! I don't want to learn any secrets. Secrets, I can make up. I just want to know what the place looks and feels like.

It's not classified stuff, but maybe somehow it hasn't been deemed worth mentioning by reporters... and how can I write about it in a novel if I need to, if nobody ever talks about it? I can't afford to go there! I could just dream up my take on the Pakistani / Indian border and look like some kind of Dan Brownesque fool to, and insult the intelligence of, those who have been / lived there.

Moreover, I read somewhere that the Indian army was "More British than the British army" while the Pakistani army was sloppy and lacking in training, spit and polish, equipment and discipline. Is this true?

Granted, the Pakistani army recently racked up more experience under fire in Swat and other theaters, but is the Indian army still the best trained?
I think I'll have to use your answer about the Khyber Pass, since it seems like the only viable way through.

It won't be hard to write that in, but it precludes me from going nutso with that "grand scene" reminiscent of hundreds of German Panzers rolling into the Eastern Front.

It's interesting to learn that terrain might be the reason they haven't really had at each other yet...
Hey! I finally made sense out of the Google Map and Khyber is betwix Pakistan and Afghanistan, NOT between India and Pakistan as I wanted to know.

Seems like I'm back with Kashmir.
